No dustwrapper, some wear to the spine ends, bevelled edges and corners of green cloth-covered boards; gilt titles and decoration on the spine is rubbed but still readable, as is the gilt title and red-and-black illustration of John Knox's house on front board. Minor foxing to outer pages, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book, being a historical tale set in Scotland at the time of the Reformation in the mid sixteenth century. No author's name given (''By the Author of 'The Spanish Brothers', 'The Czar: a Tale of the Time of the First Napoleon' etc' '' but author's name, according to the British Library, was Deborah Alcock (1825-1913). London: Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd, 1907. Some water-staining to the spine and back of light blue cloth-covered boards, but gilt titles on spine and red floral design on spine and front cover are all still bright, as is the small colour picture of a little girl selling flowers which is fixed onto the middle of the front board. No publication date given, but was a school prize in 1907 (''for Diligence in her Classes''). So a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover Victorian novel for children. The story involves a woman who moves to a country village to help look after some young children. The usual mildly moralistic stuff. 176pp, 4 full-page b&w illustrations.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. The story revolves round the lives of several men who find themselves sharing a table in a hotel dining room. A novel set on a Flying Doctor station in the Western Australian outback, the story involves a doctor from Sydney on a working holiday having to take over after the resident doctor is injured. No dustwrapper, minor creasing to spine ends of light blue cloth-covered boards, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this novel, part of the publisher's ''New Phoenix Library'' series. The story deals with a couple who go to live in Sicily, and the bride is unaware that her husband's uncle is a notorious bandit chief. London: Andre Deutch, 1984. Minor fading to spine of price-clipped dustwrapper, some yellowing to the pages, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover novel. Originally published in German in 1982 as ''Die Ballade von der Typhoid Mary'', the story is based on the life of .... yes, the legendary ''Typhoid Mary '' alias Maria Caduff who caused many deaths from typhoid fever in late nineteenth century America. 172pp.. No dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends of green boards, slight fading to spine but gilt titles thereon are still bright; a small ink stamp on f/ep, binding just starting to split at half-title, some foxing to outer pages and to page edges throughout, but otherwise a good clean copy of this hard-cover book. A story set in Roman Britain in the late second century AD, mostly around Hadrian's Wall. The author was a Sir Philip Howard Pilditch, Conservative MP for Spelthorne, Middlesex between 1918 and 1931. No dustwrapper, some bumping to spine ends and corners of dark blue boards as well as some wear to sides of spine and edges of cover, and some old water-damage to bottom edge of front board resulting in the cloth lifting slightly. NOT a first edition but a later (same year? "first published 1914" on rev of title page) impression, the first impression has, I understand, gilt ttiles to the front board and publishers adverts at the back of the book, this copy has neither. But otherwise a good, internally clean and tight, copy of this hard-cover collection of thirty-six short stories by the author, including "The Open Window" and "The Schartz-Metterklume Method". 312pp.. But otherwise a not too bad, tight copy of this hard-cover novel. A rags-to-riches type story of a woman from a poverty-stricken background in a small fishing village in Morayshire. 479pp.. Edinburgh: William Blackwood & Sons Ltd, 1932. Creasing and tears to the edges of dustwrapper, also the bottom half-inch of dustwrapper is missing at the bottom of the spine and the back panel. Minor bumping to spine ends of orange cloth-covered boards, some old damp-marking also, but the black titles on spine and front board are all still clear. The seventh of the author's novels featuring the character F Mandell Essington, who originally appeared in "The Lunatic at Large" in 1899, though in this one Essington is supposed to have written the story. 311pp.. A YA fantasy novel set in eleventh-century Ireland at the time of the Norse invasions, the story deals with an Irish princess with psychic abilities joining forces with a Norse warrior with similar abilities to fight a much darker enemy. A good clean tight copy, with no creasing to the spine or covers, of this soft-cover novel (with some Christian emphasis) set in rural north-west Ulster in the 1930s and '40s. Signed by the author on title page ''Every Blessing, Speedy''. Originally published in April 1994, this is a reprint from November the same year. Speedy Moore died on 31st July 2008. 187pp.. Signed by Author. Soft Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
