New York: Harper & Bros, 1869. Philosopher, political economist, the most interesting intellect of the 19th Century, Mill was also an important figure in the history of science and the development of what we call today its methodology. Originally published in 1843, this is a Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy of a Later American Printing. Large, sturdy octavo in brown pebbled cloth, ruled on the front and rear covers, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text, nicely bright; 600 pages, indexed. Contemporary (dated 1869, at Harvard) signature on the third free endpaper. There are a few penciled notations scattered throughout, but particularly in the section dealing with the chain of reason. A solid copy of this important work. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.

Philadelphia: David McKay, Publisher, 1889. Dr. Napheys (1842-1876) marketed his book on male sexuality to the Protestant Christian community, where it was immensely popular. He was an early Eugenicist, which he combined with "...sociology, animal breeding, Christian faith, and good old 'common sense.'" This is a Very Good (plus) copy of a Later Printing of a "New Edition." Brown decorative cloth binding, ruled in black, with gilt titling on the spine. The front cover has a gilt decoration with the motto (Knowledge is Safety." Clean text; 1v, 362 pages, and 31 pages of "Testimonials" in the rear. Indexed. Contains an Author's Preface and an Editor's preface from 1878. Slightly dusty paqe edges; front gutter has cracked, but seems to be holding well. . Later Printing. Decorative Cloth. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Descripción:
Philadelphia: Anthony Finley, 1827. Conrad Malte-Brun (1775-1826) was a Danish geographer who had been exiled to France in violation of a censorship law. He is credited with coining the designation of "Oceania." Here is an early American printing, perhaps three years after the First Edition. This is Volume II only, which contains Sections {called "Books"] 38-66, including the six regarding Oceania. Leather tree calf binding with titling and ruling in gilt on the spine. Clean text, but toned and spotted throughout. [The 529 pages still remain clear to read]. Rubbed at the margins, and the covers have cracked, with the front just barely hanging on. Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of repairs or restoration. . Later Printing. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

There is no publication date; Quercus assumes it to be circa 1880. Brown decorative cloth binding; stamped and filled in black on the front cover; black and gilt on the spine. Clean text; viii, 583 pages, with four pages of the publisher's adverts in the rear. With 473 great black-and-white illustrations. Bookplate of the illustrator J.Carl Pehl (1872-1959) on the front paste-down. The FFEP is missing; lightly rubbed at the margins. Sound and quite attractive. . First Thus. Decorative Cloth.
