Elegant, entertaining and informative, these essays are very enjoyable reads.

Little wear. Hard to say if this book has ever been read. This is not a book on how to garden, it is much more about WHY to garden. This collection of essays touches on how gardening affects life, relationships and other pursuits. First edition.

The tooled leather cover has deteriorated substantially, with the two layers of the front cover having separated (photo #5) and the leather beginning to pull away from the spine (photo #6). Loss of leather has occurred along many edges. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked. The bookmark ribbon is still present, but no longer attached. An interesting read and a rare edition.

When I first came across this book, is was shelved with music books, but Mahler is just background noise to the wonderful ideas and observations contained within these essays. 168 clean, bright, intact pages.

A collection of 29 essays on various aspects of biology. Thomas is an excellent writer that brings his knowledge of science into clear focus for any and all readers. As any good scientist should be, Thomas is an accomplished observer.Book shows little wear. Owner's name and brief inscription inside front cover. White cover is a little yellowed along the spine. Said spine is free of creases. 180 pages.

A collection of columns orginally published in a variety of magazines, including The Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, The Readers Digest, and Good Housekeeping. These essays were originally published between 1930 and 1943. Book shows some wear at the corners and along the edges. Most significantly is a tear in the spine along the back edge from the top and then across just above the half-way point, creating a loose flap. (see photo #3. I have secured the flap with a piece of removable double sided tape to avoid further damage.) Red covers have fadeed to brown over the spine. Deckle-edged pages are clean, tight and unmarked. This is a fairly rare book.

Essayist Lewis Thomas put together another collection of his ruminations on biology from a perpetual observer. The book has been gently read and shows some small wear. 146 pages, all clean, tight and intact.

This book is a collection of humorous essays written by a 10-year-old young lady in 1904. After fifty years in a scrapbook, they were copied by by the author's daughter, who then found a publisher, with the book being released in 1962. It went on to spend 66 weeks on the New York Times best seller list. This copy, from 1964, shows little wear for its almost 60 years. The cover shows chips around the edges and a single crease on the spine, which is still square. The page edges are dyed deep red all around and the only marks within is the owner's name and address inside the front cover. This is a fairly rare book.

A rare book. A collection of short essays about the couple's experiences while living in Prague. Originally published in an eZine, then accumulated into this little book. In excellent condition after 20 years.

This is a collection of essays on organizational life, 72 in all. The book is generally in good condition, with a couple of very small tears where the front cover meets the spine. The pages themselves seem to be clean and intact. I have seen no evidence of highlighting, underlining or margin notes.
