A few nicks to top of front cover at spine and some wear/tiny creases at corners. Interior clean with some tanning and binding solid. Red tinted page ends.

Some creases to some pages near middle of book with small stain to a few pages and a few holes/abrasions, likely form silverfish. Jacket is unclipped ($6.50) with some creasing to front flap. Stated One-Volume Edition, October 1939. The red cloth variant with fading to spine and board ends - especially at top. Several stray spots to cloth of boards and spine. About 2/3 of front hinge split with mull showing, but still solid. Interior clean. Jacket is price-clipped with some chipping at spine ends, front flap crease and corners and 3/4 inch tear to top of spine. A handful of smaller tears/nicks to edges. Some scuffing/marks and a tiny puncture to rear panel.

The author's magnificent homage to the disappearing face of Europe which inspired Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel. Assumed First Danish Edition. A very nice copy in patterned boards and leather corners and spine. Page ends sprayed/speckled blue. Small sticker removal scar(1/2"" X 3/4"") to rear board and a few scuffs to boards in general. Light edgewear. Smudge to one page, otherwise clean interior and tight binding.

New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1948. Second US Edition/1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. The second US Edition published after the author's Nobel Prize win. In black cloth with gilt to type. Some dings/softening to three corners and a name to ffep inked out, otherwise clean with solid binding. Jacket is unclipped($3.00) with two chips roughly 1 x 3/4 inch to top of front panel and spine with smaller chips to top of front flap crease and adjacent panel top. A couple 1 inch tears to top of rear panel and some shorter tears to top and bottom of front panel, top of rear and bottom of spine. In green boards with nice and bright gilt to type, design motif and top page ends. Bump to heel of spine, small split at head and a few other dings to edges and top rear corner which is split. Light scuffing. Pencil marks to pastedowns, otherwise clean with tight binding. Some foxing and discoloration to front and bottom page ends.

London: Secker & Warburg, 1965. First UK Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. A lovely copy in green boards with gilt to type on spine. Clean with no issues. Jacket is unclipped (25s. net) with sticker shadow nearby. One 1/4 inch tear to top of front panel and spine and a few micro chips to head of spine and top corners. Some tanning to rear panel.

Three of four corners dinged with dents to bottoms of boards and top of rear board with small splits. Previous owner's name and date to top of ffep. Jacket is unclipped with edgewear.

In red cloth with black title panels and dulled gilt. Soiling to boards and wear at corners and spine ends with small spot of fraying to head of spine. Names to ffep, and top of title page which has price stamp as well. Intermittent underlining and a few notes in text. Jacket is unclipped($1.95) - though price inked out - and well worn with scuffing, edgewear and chips to corners and spine ends. A few short tears as well.

A few numbers to bottom of title page and a rough pocket/due slip removal scar to front free endpaper that is begging for a nice bookplate or photo of the legendary walker. Jacket is glossy and beautiful.

No volume 3.
