Detroit: Helm, Incorporated, for Ford Motor Co, 1979. Paperback. 136p., 5x8 inches, illustrated with diagrams and tables, worn booklet in stapled rubbed pictorial wraps. Former owner used this item frequently, to judge by the abundant external grime and oil, the slightly less abundant internal grime and oil, and the severely rubbed covers. Good luck with that truck of yours.

New York: The Norman W. Henley Publishing Co, 1929. Hardcover. viii, 210p., + 36p catalog, frontispiece, preface, illustrated throughout with b&w photos, diagrams, plans and line drawings. Old ownership signature (of one Tom Ashton) on titlepage. First edition in green cloth boards, a sound copy with hinges in good shape and a square tight textblock; however, handling soil has darkened the spine panel and completely obliterated spine titling; also find edgewear with a touch of fraying to top and tail rims, and card peeks out at lower corner-tips. A better than 'reading copy'.

Buffalo, NY: US Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, 1969. Pamphlet. Four-panel brochure, 5.5x8 inches, some foxing at upper left on front panel. Explanation of the diversion of water from the American Falls portion of Niagara Falls, due to the accumulation of broken rock at the bottom of the falls. The cover image shows the rock bed of the falls after the water was diverted.

New York: Maver Publishing Company, 1912. Hardcover. xvi, 563p. plus appended material and indices; wood- or steel-engraved vignette illustrations throughout (well-reproduced), casebound in 9.5x6.5 inch textured cloth boards lettered gilt and paneled in blind. A handled copy with edgewear and slight fray, a penciled ownership, hinges remain good, spine titling legible, textblock leaves mildly toned but cleanly and unmarked, a good copy.

Washington: Smithsonian Institution Press, 1973. Pamphlet. 50p., 8.5x11 inches, frontis-photo, illustrated with photos, drawings, reproductions, detailed engineering plans, notes, top corner bumped, else very good in original pictorial stapled wraps. Smithsonian Studies in History and Technology Number 25.

San Francisco: Farallon Press, 1931. Hardcover. xi; 171p., hardbound in gray and black cloth boards with a gilt lightning design, 10x7 inches. Extremities are badly worn: cloth has fallen away from boards along most edges with fabric hanging free, spine rims are torn and frayed, item is otherwise sound with good hinges and textblock, and it has excellent illustrations. Expect dozens of black and white photos, several line maps, and three full color reproductions of posters that are tipped-in and undamaged. Number 357 of an undisclosed limitation, signed at the limitation by the author, a US delegate to the Second World Power Conference in Berlin in 1930.

Paris, 1930. Paperback. A large folder, 12x9.5 inch plain printed wraps, containing variously paginated fascicles that are staplebound and are themselves fastened into the wraps with a decorative cord. Presswork on thick matte leaves (quite alkaline) features sepia gravure site photography of (mostly) modernist industrial buildings, plus bridges & roads & houses, all constructed with the company's product (tarpaper, poured layerings, road surfacing). Many diagrams also; these detail construction minutia. Captions and the brief running text entirely in French. Wraps somewhat edgeworn, a little toned and spotted, staples badly rusted while the cord remains sound and decorative. The photos are excellent, clearly reproduced and in clean condition. Laid in find loose leaves that further clarify builders' concerns. All in all, a very good exemplar.

Hawthorne Victoria: Self-published by the author, 1949. Paperback. 191p., not illustrated per se, but the numerous advertisements provide visuals, a small softbound in 7x5 inch nicely designed wraps. Lower corner-tip has sustained a light bump that affects all leaves, terminal leaf sports an inch-square seller's fiche (Perkins Oriental Books of Pasadena CA), item is otherwise quite sound and clean, and otherwise unmarked. A very good copy. We gather from another entry on the net, that the 1949 annual may have been a one-fer, never again repeated, although editor/publisher Brogden helmed other similar items.

Oakland: California Department of Transportation District 04, 2002. various pagination [approx 96 pages] 8.5x11 inches, all pages printed recto-only, includes plans, photos (some color), maps (color), charts, tables, very good reports in spiral-bound velo and clear plastic covers. Extensive report gathered by archaeologist for the William Self Associates from October 1999-January 2000 evaluating improvements to bridges and piers. Also what seems an exhaustive survey of sunken "debris fields", leftover scrap from dumping and abandoned projects.

New York: Jonathan A. Hill, 1991. xiv, 391p., frontis portrait of Isaac Newton and other period images, hardbound, one of one thousand handsome clothbound specimens in a run of eleven hundred with leather additional; text records an immense number of personal holdings in the field of mechanics, its development in Europe, with professionally researched annotations, item gotten-up in fine-press mode by Austin TX bookmen: figured paper over 11.5x8.5 inch clothbacked boards, as-new shape in a worn, slightly soiled & toned shipping jacket (blank white). Very strong in English-language treatments.

[Spain]: Bomba Prat, 1950. Pamphlet. 52p., alkaline coated paperstock throughout with numerous vignette engineering drawings and line-drawn specs, softbound in 7.5x5 inch stapled color wraps; cover has pulled away a little from text-block but still holding, initial and terminal leaves slightly foxed with a small light stain, sound and entirely clean within. Text in Spanish. Pumps, mostly electrical.

Washington DC: Government Printing Office, 1928. 31p., smallpoint type, 9.5x6 inch plain printed self-wraps. Paste-fastened, also has been punch-holed for a binder, slight edgewear and toning, a very good copy. Johnson directs his sarcasm at senator Smoot of Utah. 106477-4547.

Associated Oil Company, 1934. Unpaginated, ["13" page numerals are pencilled in], small stapled pamphlet in 7x5 inch photodecorated wraps; staples slightly rusted, text bears a couple of pencil underlines, good (good-only) copy.

Chicago: Science and Mechanics Publishing Company, 1955. Magazine. 180p., acidic paperstock, near-pristine condition despite aging of textblock, not yet fragile but soon-to-be, softbound in 9.5x6.5 inch color wraps. Find a cover-note by an earlier bookdealer, in pencil. Pretty color cover illustration! Performance reports on the '55 Chevy ! ..and lots more. Sound, clean and otherwise unmarked.

Washington DC: United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, 1975. v, 82p., 8.5x11 inches, illustrated with figures and tables, three-hole punch in spine, staples rusted, a few small stains on front wrap, sticker scar on rear wrap else very good first edition booklet in blue printed stapled wraps.

Paris: the firm, 2015. Hardcover. Unpaginated, about one hundred pages, exhibit photography in color on high-gloss paperstock throughout, cased into 10x7.5 inch dark brown boards titled in foil. Covers just slightly edgeworn, some small light streakings to front cover, absolutely sound and otherwise perfectly clean and unmarked. How to watch a watch. New York: American Radiator Company, 1925. Paperback. 113p., printed on glazed alkaline paperstock and softbound in red fabrikoid wraps with black titling, 8.5x10.5 inches, lightly soiled and curled, a nice copy. Diagrams, sizes, kinds and list prices.

Barcelona: Sociedad Anonima Serra Manlleu, 1932. Hardcover. 303p., coated paperstock throughout with numerous b&w photographic images retouched for diagramatic clarity, a small colorphoto section (close-ups of multicolored yarns), hardbound in 7x5 inch maroon cloth boards gilt. Textblock has rounded outer corners, all edges are gilded brightly. A bright, unhandled copy.

New York: Trustees Gas Educational Fund, 1909. Hardcover. xxi, 683p., illustrated primarily with line-drawn diagrams (some rubricated for emphasis, see pp.458-462) and a few fuzzy photos, first edition brownish maroon cloth boards. Bevelled edges with decorative ruling in blind, spine panel gilt-lettered and -ruled. Slightly edgeworn with a little color-loss round cover's margins, front hinge is cracked but holding, only one little old pencilled note directing reader to "Hydraulic Main," an otherwise clean sound copy. We urge somebody out there to send a copy to PG&E, specially the SF peninsula office. ..looks pretty useful, if you're a pick and helve guy, maybe even if you're a back-hoe guy. Mildest edgewear, slight marginal toning, a very good clean unmarked copy. Cmnd 5430. Supports the construction of a tunnel under the English Channel to link England with France and the mainland, as a way of promoting trade and peace.
