San Francisco: promotional office, 1940. Postcard. Very good exemplars enclosed in a small plastic presentation folder provided with twenty clear pockets of 6x4 inches, each to contain two back-to-back cards, of which three contain one card only and another none at all, the rest filled to capacity. There are 13 b&w cards, the rest (22) are in color or colorized. Good ones! especially the fancy color items. Spot-checking suggests that this was an active collection, not a group purchased en masse, as the terminal card is marked discreetly "$1.00" in pencil. Most unused, though a couple have greetings/portage/postmarks to verso.

Sticker on leaf preceding title page with a slightly different title statement: Twelve light and motion sculptures by Janz, Jennings, Leonelli, KcKinnon, in editions of nine commissioned by the London Arts Group June 24th to July 18th 1970. Catalog of a group exhibition featuring large electronic light installations. With artists' statements on the programming and design of the different electronic art works.

Rhode Island: Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Rhode Island Parks Association, 1987. Pamphlet. 48p., 6x9 inch wraps; maps of the river routes, b&w photos., wraps lightly foxed, in good condition.

Milano: Fratelli Treves, Editori, 1881. Hardcover. 320p., a rebound folio in 15x11 inch cloth boards with both covers and the complete spine panel laid down on brownish-purple fabric (an opportunity to use the word "puce"), utilitarian but skilled, compatible endsheets, item rather worn at this point in time but still has strong hinges. Original covers were probably from a softbound and have transferred well, while the spine panel is abraded and has received a coat of glaze. Enough about the outside, it is the inside that impresses; following a plat map of the site in monochrome terra-cotta, every two leaves of text alternate with splendid large steel engravings, doublespreads are common. The majority of images are cut crystal-clear, like a modern Piero della Francesca, of enormous machines and interiors and people, and not infrequently are instead moody and dusky on purpose like a Turner. Eight issues, staplebound, 8.5x11 inches with illustrated covers, staples beginning to show rust, showing edge and shelf wear, else in very good condition. Issues present are Vol. 3, Nos. 3, 4, 6 (1980); Vol. 4, Nos. 1, 3, 5 (1981), and Vol. 5, Nos. 2 and 3 (1982). The International Project for Soft Energy Paths is an asset of Friends of the Earth. The magazine promotes alternative energy. The term "Soft Energy" was conceived by Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute (no affiliation with the magazine).

Girard, Kansas: Haldeman-Julius Company, 1924. Pamphlet. 64p., cream stapled wraps, 3.5x5 inches, evenly toned, top of spine chipped else good condition. "A University in Print" with logo printed on rear wrap, Little Blue Book No. 510.

Paris: Ch.Chardin, 1930. Pamphlet. 8p., numerous b&w photos/artists' renderings of electrical devices (stored neatly or in use), a few patients photographed or sketched, semi-glazed alkaline paperstock. No merely manual techniques are shown (compiler recommends a book for that), instead, everything shown is electrically enhanced: "air chaud et froid, vibro-masseurs w/accessories, manu-vibrateur, massage electrique de haute frequence, maigro-masseur, massage faradique ou d'induction (par piles), table de massage".. there is text besides the lengthy captionings. Condition: pretty good, pace a bit of edgewear, dust-soil and corner-tip creasing externally, and crimpings throughout the ads. Sound enough, and unmarked except for an old dealership code in pencil. Let's describe it as "good", meaning "good only" Our dating is based on the lot it turned up in, and the fact that the cover design looks "art deco" - though the various machines look prehistoric. Chernobyl, Ukraine: Chernobyl NPP, 2011. Pamphlet. 11.5x16.5 inches, single sheet of coated stock folded into 8-page brochure, color photos, remains of horizontal fold across vertical leafs, some edgewear, else good condition. Tourist brochure issued by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant several years past the 1986 disaster, (it refers to the "former Soviet Union" and the disaster in the past tense). Includes glowing description of Slavutich, a town of 27,000, 50 kilometers east of Chernobyl NPP, well outside of the 30 km "zone of alienation" surrounding the disaster area, which goes unmentioned. Proudly notes that the plant is "an open site for the public" and that more than 3000 visitors annually visit the station and Slavutich.

Schenectady, NY: General Electric, 1940. Pamphlet. Chatty brag with, beyond the financial info, b&w site and exhibit photos, spot-color decorations (each item a different color), printed on glossy alkaline paperstock; most are staplebound, all but the last number measuring 8x6.5 inches (the last a different format measuring 8x3 inches), and bearing vertical creases for mailing in a standard envelope. A little crimping here and there, very good copies. FYI, the 10/25/39 issue is simply a folio sheet folded twice which unfolded is a poster in full color touting how electric appliances "keep mothers young!" Also of note, 10/25/33 promotes NRA with a beautifully rendered logo, "we do our part

San Francisco: Power to the People, 1988. Single 8.5x11 inch handbill/press release printed one side only on bright yellow stock, very good. Single sheet press release concerning the Annual Meeting of Shareholders of PG&E. Call for a rally to protest the power company and to gather signatures to place what became the Hetch Hetchy intiative Proposition Z which would create a MUD. Included in the protest were Grass Roots, TURN and Sadie, Sadie, the Rabbi Lady aka Gilbert Block, a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence.
