In 4to with 18 signatures. [i-vii], blank, (1) -136 pp. The entire original text block in unbound signatures. Light toning to the title page and pg 136 which are the facing surfaces of the unbound work. Otherwise bright clean and very neat. Uncommon in the original edition, here in an unusual example of the printed and unopened quires, prior to binding. VG+ thus .

Binding sound but front hinge tender with front free endpage removed, probably to excise former ownership. Cloth faded at edges and gilt somewhat dulled at spine. Several pin head sized holes in the cloth over the front joint. Illustrated with a tissue guarded steel plate frontis engraving of Asbury. Title page has a short closed edge tear that we have archivally mended. Text generally clean and bright. G++ .

Includes the unattributed "Addition to Index of Mellick's 'Story of an Old Farm.' " comprising 2 leaves, one in carbon copy and the second typewritten, held by paper clip and laid in. Also laid in is a dense 4 page manuscript letteer to the author dated 1892 which appears to have been part of a continuing exchange; this letter relates considerable details relating to the Dunham family line in early New Jersey and is written by Mary R Matthews. Letter in original mailing envelope. Binding of the book is sound and contents complete, including tissue guarded plates. New endpages but with original patterned flyleaves bound in. Joints and hinges sound. Spotting and foxing scattered throughout. A damp line across the top third of the final 20% of pages. Some signatures starting a little at the front edge. Good only .
