An outstanding study of William Clarke Quantrill and the famous "Border Wars" in Kansas and Missouri in the 1860's. With the outbreak of the Civil War, Quantrill joined the Confederacy. Preferring guerilla tactics, he organized his own gang of southern sympathizers.Very Good condition. 1st Edition. Red cloth binding, text and image in gilt on the cover. Title, author, and publisher in worn gilt on the spine. Cover has a spot on the front and light rubbing on the back. Light edge and corner wear. Pages are lightly tanned and edges are untrimmed. I think there were 2-4 pages that had a stain, but I couldn't find them again, there may be more - but the book is mostly clean and tight. Binding is good. McCorkle was a young Missouri farmer of Southern sympathies who became a prominent member of William Clarke Quantrill's infamous guerrillas. The took advantage of the turmoil in the Missouri-Kansas borderland to prey upon pro-Union people." He participated in raids including the massacres at Lawrence and Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Centralia, Missouri.Book Condiiton: Very Good-. This got the "minus" because there are a few light stains on the inside front cover, a slight bit of "wrinkling" of the first 40 or so pages (barely there and does not affect the text at all), and tiny soft top corner creases on the first 8 pages - otherwise pages are clean and binding is tight. Outside covers in excellent condition and no spine crease.232 pages including Index.

Per the dust covers: This is a full-scale biography of John Brown. "John Brown was a profoundly religious man dedicated to emancipation and Negro rights..." He "tried to overthrow slavery in the South itself by attacking Harpers Ferry and inciting a slave insurrection."

This book is an autobiography of Carry A. Nation. She recounts a timeline of events in her life. She mentions things like: Negroes as slaves, superstitions, Kentucky, Missouri, spiritualism, whisky, husbands, jail, prohibition, mothers, Washington D.C., assault, liquor, Oklahoma, Texas, Masonry, poetry.

Very Good- condition. Dark Blue cloth covers over boards. Design impression on front, Gold gilt lettering on front and spine. Gilt on spine is faded. Some rubbing mostly to edges, corners, and Spine. Front and back have a couple lightly soiled spots, but overall look nice. End papers are a green floral & check design. The front end papers have a wrinkle at the top, a small stain at the bottom, and a white sticker that someone tried to pull off and I believe it took a bit of the design with it. The text is clean and there are some black & white illustrations. The binding is good, but not tight. Page 147/148 sticks out a tiny bit from the rest of the closed book pages.
