The Valjean Edition. 3/4 leather bindings with marbled boards. Spines have chips and some are loose – very fragile. Covers also have chips, bumps, and edge wear. Interior of books have frontispieces with printed tissue guards.
Pages in all of the volumes are waved or cockled. Previous owner's name is in front of books.
Poor condition that will need expert book restoration.

The Prince of India Vol I & II. By Lew Wallace. Published by Harper & Brothers, New York. 1893. First Edition. Hardbacks without dust jacket. Good Condition. Blue cloth with gilt titles on front cover along with embossed red rosary and moon and star in silver-light. Light rubbing at extremities. Covers faded and rubbed. Spine and edges have minor bumping, as well as some shelf/edge wear. The inside of Volume I is clean and unmarked except for 2.00 on fly page. Volume II is clean and unmarked except for previous owner's name and "November 1899" written on fly page. 502 pp + 578 pp are yellowed. Binding is good. Lewis Wallace was a general for the Union army during the Civil War. He went on to become governor of the New Mexico Territory out west. Wallace was also a lecturer who wrote three works during his busy life. Includes detailed sixteen-page introductory biography: "Life of Andersen". Green cloth boards, black embossed cover and spine design with vine and leaves. Title in the black book on front cover and Alta Edition in an outlined box lower middle of cover. On the spine is the title, the word, "Illustrated" and publisher's name which is not as clear as the other two. Cover and spine are faded and rubbed with edge wear. The ends of spine are fraying. Small chip on the back cover. Binding intact, but loose. First three pages have detached from the hinge. Interior clean and unmarked except for previous owner's name on two of the fly pages. The top of spine has 2" tear and both ends of spine are bumped. Fine book with very slight wear to the corners. 7¾" tall x 5.5" wide.

Hardcover with unclipped dust jacket. Both are in very good condition. Condition: Good. Oversized beige boards -some fading. Light edge and corner wear. Dust jacket in very good condition with minor tears at the top front of dust jacket and one on the top back jacket. Edges slightly bumped. Two tiny stains on front cover of the dust jacket. Minor edge wear, small chip from dj on back. Some soiling. B&W illustrations by Carol Brown.
