"Four Poems of Departure" was published in an edition of 500 copies, with ink drawings "from an anonymous suite entitled Pilgrims (after Michaux)." There is also an unattached bookplate signed by Wright. Charles Wright (1935 -- ) was born at Pickwick Dam, Tennessee, and attended Davidson College and the Iowa Writers' Workshop. (He should not be confused with the novelist Charles Wright.) Wright served four years in the U.S. Army, and it was while stationed in Italy that he began to read and write poetry. To date, he has authored over 20 books of poetry. He shared the National Book Award in 1983 for "Country Music: Selected Early Poems," and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for "Black Zodiac." From 2014 to 2015, he was the 20th Poet Laureate of the United States.

Stain on title label on front cover; no other writing or marks observed. Alfred David Burnett (1937-2023) was a British poet and librarian. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland but his childhood was spent in India, where his father was employed. After World War II he returned to Edinburgh with his mother and brother attended George Watson's College and then studied English Literature at Edinburgh University. During his career he wrote many poems, papers, and books. "Goat's Beard" was published in 1998 by the Black Cygnet Press in an edition of 150 copies using Zerkall paper with marbled wrappers and includes two wood engravings by Sister Margaret Tournour.

He graduated from Worcester State College in 1970 and the University of Arkansas in 1984. In 2012, he won a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for his work. He is a professor in the Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing program of the English Department at Florida International University. John Dufresne is the author of six novels, including "Louisiana Power & Light" and "Love Warps the Mind a Little," which were both New York Times Notable Books of the Year.

Signed by the engraver under George Washington's linocut opposite the title page. Staple-bound paperback with minor wear to the covers. In 1783, General George Washington wrote this letter to Annis Boudinot Stockton, widow of New Jersey politician Richard Stockton who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Both Washington and "Mrs. Stockton" corresponded over the years, which included her sending him poems as well as letters. This edition was printed in 1970 on a hand press through the Three Kings Press in Germany, in an edition of 50 copies. This is number 20, and is signed by Peter von Lehmden, of Oak Park, Illinois, who designed the linocut of George Washington featured in the front.
