Sixteen uncolored etched plates by Cruikshank extracted from five different works issued between 1826 and 1832 and bound together. 10.5" x 14" (oblong), in a late-19th or early 20th century binding of tan cloth with leather spine and corners, marbled endpapers. Front joint cracked (hinge secure), corners scuffed, one plate with a non-archival tape repair at margin, occasional very minor foxing; very good. A few plates with original tissue guards, the rest with later replacements inserted. Includes the wonderful illustrated title page from Illustrations of Time (but no plates from that book); one plate from Phrenological Propensities, three each from Scraps and Sketches Parts I and II, and four each from Scraps and Sketches Parts III and IV. Folio, 130 pp + 7 unnumbered leaves to which are affixed 13 actual cloth samples. Previous owner's signature on front free endpaper, stain at bottom edge of front pastedown and free endpaper, otherwise internally clean. Fraying to cloth at corners, pale stain from liquid splash visible on rear board, spine leather rubbed through at head, scuffed, and with some uneven discoloration (darkening). About very good. Important work on the evolution of clothing in nineteenth century Texas. As described in the foreword by Stanley Marcus, "this study is significant not only as a survey of what men and women wore during the frontier days of Texas, but as an explanation of how and why certain articles of apparel originated. It demonstrates the strong human desire for ornamentation and decoration that has existed from the beginning of civilization.

Folio, 37 cm (ca. 14.5 inches), pp. [14], 77 + 40 plates drawn by Kiblerand engraved by Kohl, Mark, Schülz, Ponheimer, Mansfeld, Adam, and Durmer. Contemporary leather boards, rebacked (probably in the nineteenth century). Spine panel now partially separated from rear board and missing a large chip at the head. Edges of boards heavily worn. Small brown stain at gutter of text pages only. Binding cracked between plates XII and XII. Plates with light scattered foxing but still attractive. A decent reference copy of a scarce work. Text is in Spanish and English. "Encurentro 92" is the title of six mural units composing one work of art. This catalogue includes over 70 color illustrations of details from the mural. "The work of art endeavours not only to rescue the roots of Humanity but to treasure scientific discoveries which show man the way towards a more just technological and social advance" (p. 13). Copy 125 of a total edition of 250, of which the first 100 contained signed lithographs (this does not). Flexible cardboard binding sewm with parchment strips. Edges rubbed, bump to upper innner corner, art nouveau-style bookplate on front free endpaper, internals very clean.

München: R. Piper & Co, 1913. Hardcover. Very good. First edition illustated by Kubin, number 68 of 800 copies issued, in a lovely gilt-decorated cloth binding by Paul Renner. All edges gilt. Only the stub of the original ribbon bookmark remains, some rubbing to corners and spine ends, but overall a very attractive copy. 29 cm, 243 pp, with sixty b/w illustrations by Kubin, an Austrian printmaker and illustrator who was an important figure of both the Symbolist and Expressionist movements. The text is a German translation of Dostoyevsky's "Dvoinik," often rendered as "The Double" in English-language editions.

Number 304 of an edition of 440 copies. Text in German. A short introduction is followed by plates reproducing landscapes and figural drawings and watercolors by a number of artists, including Josef Anton Koch, J. Schnorr V. Carolsfeld, Joh. Martin von Rohden, Friedrich Presller, Joh. Adam Klein, and others. Some are sepia toned, some color, some black and white.

Bound by Potter and Sons in three quarter leather and marbled boards, with gilt spine with raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Bookplate of I.E. Lister-Empson on the front pastedown, light rubbing to boards and spine, mild to moderate foxing to text pages, but plates clean and bright. Shaw was a prolific architectural draftsman and illuminator who sought to preserve the past and provide models for artists and designers through the meticulour reproduction of a wide range of medieval and Renaissance ornamentation.
