Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling, a few very s m a l l closed tears - one with creases, a few tiny chips, light rubbing/soiling, slight darkening to spine and flap-folds. Burgundy endpapers, b&w frontispiece. In this work by the 18th century Irish author, a wealthy vicar is ruined by his business associate and forced to take a position in a secluded village. The dastardly local squire attempts to seduce one of his daughters and causes financial hardship to the family, before getting his comeuppance at the hands of his own servant. The myserious Mr. Burchell marries another daughter, after revealing himself as the kindly Sir William Thornhill, family finances are restored and all is well with the world. Light wear at top of spine and at corners, minor wear at bottom of spine, small crease at bottom corner of title page, light toning to fore-edge and bottom of text block. In this sequel to "Henry Esmond", Henry's twin grandsons find themselves on opposing sides of the American War of Independence. Light separation between two page gatherings at pages 256/257 - pages holding firmly, very small crease at top corner of pages 1 to 25, minor rubbing on coloured endpapers, very light browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, light edge wear, slight fading to spine colour, three faint creases down spine. Slipcase has light to moderate edge wear, crease along top panel, separation at top/bottom rear edges and partially on one bottom side edge, light rubbing/tiny scuffs to panels.. Full-Leather.
