Burgundy e ndpapers, sepiatone plates, including frontispiece, decorated title page. An historical romance set in Reformation France. Very light browning to edges of textblock, very light edge wear. Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling, a few very s m a l l closed tears - one with creases, a few tiny chips, light rubbing/soiling, slight darkening to spine and flap-folds. The dastardly local squire attempts to seduce one of his daughters and causes financial hardship to the family, before getting his comeuppance at the hands of his own servant. The myserious Mr. Burchell marries another daughter, after revealing himself as the kindly Sir William Thornhill, family finances are restored and all is well with the world. Light wear at top of spine and at corners, minor wear at bottom of spine, small crease at bottom corner of title page, light toning to fore-edge and bottom of text block.
