This volume forms most of the KENT Volume, but 'Kent' started athe end of Vol. VII which forms Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, and the first part of Kent. The Volume is bound in full leather with 5 raised bands, Gilt titling on 2 labels and gilt decoration to each compartment. Probably contemporary or near contemporary bindings. The spine has some flaws/damage, splitting to the edges of the spine - the front board is only holding on by one 'string'. Some small chipping with a tiny loss to the head/tail of the spine, but rear hinges holding despite some splits and overall an attractive book. ALL Edges Marbled. Slight sliver of fading to the head/tail of the spine - In the original publisher's glassine dust- jacket, with black titling to the foot of the front of the d/j and the price 30s 9d net to the foot of the inner flap. Some chips and a some loss to the d/j spine as to be expected with these fragile glassine wraps. This copy also includes a 19 pp stapled 'Supplement to the book covering the 1st January 1967 to the 31st March 1974. (a few small brown stains to the cover of the supplement, but VG inside). Internally the book is FINE - NO Inscriptions or marks. Map on endpapers. Black and white frontispiece. 143 pp. Index. Illustrated in black and white. Very TIGHT and BRIGHT. Green cloth bound boards with gilt titling and gilt decoration/county arms to front board and gilt titling and decoration to spine. The Extremities are rubbed and the top rear corner lacks some of the cloth, o/w a tight clean copy. Outer hinges tight. Top edge Gilt. Plain brown endpapers, with a previous owner's name written on the ffep - difficult to see. The Arms of Carmarthen opposite to the title page with a tissue guard (with a little light foxing) between this and the title page. This copy has been re-spined at some point in the distant past, and although the boards are a (presumed) contemporary full tree calf, the re-spining is in a heavy tan 'buckram' with a large, but attractive, leather Title label in dark burgungy with bright gilt titling and decoration. The covers are somewhat worn and scratched, with the corners and some edges of the book scraped through to the board, but it is solid, tight and all hinges are secure. The front pastedown has the attractive heraldic bookplate of 'Ld Bulkeley'. Both inner hinges have been strengthened with a buckram tape.
