Melbourne: The Hawthorn Press, 1947. Paperback. Find text through p.38, followed by eight full page b&w plates, a small softbound item in 8.5x5.5 inch printed wraps (cardstock covers with a wraparound jacket). Worn copy, wraps have short splits at top and tail of spine, mild dust-soil and sunning. Textblock has a slightly bumped corner-tip, graphics unaffected. A good (good-only) copy. Author Turnbull argues that general Australian mediocrity has let a few flowers bloom. "The National Gallery in Sidney," he scoffs, "remains, largely, a chamber of horrors to this day..

Brooklyn: Hanging Loose Press, 1993. Paperback. 90p., softbound in 8.5 x5.5 inch decorated wraps, the first wraps edition (simultaneous with the hardbound). Bound in, perhaps inadvertantly (too much binder's glue?), is a three-page publicity enclosure on Hanging Loose letterhead. A nice clean unmarked copy of a book that's hard to resist; the author, who then also taught math at University of Massachusetts, has taken found self-parody from newspapers (and overheard barroom talk) and turned it into blank verse. His line-breaks are masterful.

Unpaginated, about ten pages of critical material and 31 full page color plates, first edition 9x7.5 inch frenchfold wraps, a very good copy of a nice production. A number of items show traditional figures in contemporary drag attire, dolls in sexual situations, Mao mockery, popular culture with an unpopular take.

London: Bantam Books; Todd Publishing Co, 1943. Pamphlet. 15p., 5x7 inches; slight edgwear, heavily rusted staples with some migration, minor foxing on rear wrap, else good.

npl: Pennsylvania Railroad, 1949. Pamphlet. [20]p.; alkaline coated paperstock with b&w pix, descriptions and technical stats for a number of specialized choo choos including six curious switching engines: electric, diesel, steam and combinations. Staplebound pamphlet in 5.5x8 inch oblong pictorial wraps, cover bears an unobtrusive smudge and a couple numerals in red pencil, else an unhandled-looking copy, nice and sound.

Hamilton NZ: Outrigger Publishers, 1983. 108p., 8x6 inch bronze foil wraps, entire item has several pronounced crimps possibly from poor storage, else sound and clean.

New York: Atheneum, 1972. 254p., first American edition openweave cloth boards gilt in dj; a nice production job, text on calendared paperstock, in not quite collector's condition. Top-edge tint is faded, there is a minute nick in the head exposing a fleck of card, and the dust jacket has some ragged tears and missing chunks that obscure jacket titling. A good, sound, clean carry- to- the- coffee-shop copy. This particular George MacBeth "is married to a research geneticist and is a producer for the B.B.C. Third Programme." Even more promising than the news that MacBeth has extra-poetical credentials, is his choice of dj blurbs: along with the usual high praise we are relayed several that are gloriously hostile, "wasted talents" and so forth.
