With much emphasis on the Civil War, the dangers of paper currency, and the importance of enforcing "the rights of the black man." A pamphlet issued for Garfield's successful pursuit of the presidency in 1880.

Dawson campaigned in 1856 for the Presidential ticket headed by his fellow Pennsylvanian James Buchanan. This appears to be the only printing of his speech; I surmise that it was printed upon his retirement from Congress in 1867. OCLC 14157620 [7] [as of August 2012].
