Andre Deutsch. This is a first British edition of this 'Bech' novel from the Pulitzer Prize-winner Updike, published by Andre Deutsch in 1983. The book measures approx. 22 x 15 cms (9" x 6") and has 195 pages. The condition of the dusjacket/book is, in my opinion, very good/very good. The dustjacket is complete, with minor rubbing and a little tanned on the back. The book's covers are sound and the binding tight. The text is clean and bright. The book is ex-library, so there are stamps on the copyright page and signs of a removed label on the front fixed endpaper. It also looks as if one of the front free endpapers has been removed. But still a neat book, all-in-all. London: Associated Newspapers. First Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. This is a 1st edition of a charming and comprehensive, vintage guide to the nation's favourite pastime, published by Associated Newspapers of London, undated, but probably circa 1950s. The book is sized approx. 21 x 14 cms (8" x 5.5") and has 560 pages, including the index. There is a coloured frontispiece, 64 pages of plates and numerous illustrations within the text. Its condition, in my opinion, is good for its age. The covers and spine are sound and the binding still secure, though beginning to crack at the front. The text is clean, just a little tanned and with minor foxing on the endpapers and page edges. There are no inscriptions. The Guide is indeed 'complete'. Leeds: T Barmby. Decorative Cloth. Good. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. Full title: 'The Illustrated Pronouncing Pocket Dictionary of the English Language on the Basis of Webster, Worcester, Walker, Johnson, Etc., with an Appendix Containing Abbreviations, Foreign Words and Phrases, and Forms of Address' - with 250 engravings. This vintage little book looks to have been published around the early 1900s. It measures approx. 5.5" x 4", has 320 pages and weighs 160g. I would rate its condition as good. It is a little tatty all round and with tanned text, but basically sound. A fascinating vintage reference book - for those with good eyesight!

London: Chapman & Hall, 1953. First Edition . Simulated Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Houghton argues that many owners or managers are reluctant to collect and analyse the data essential in order to build into the works organisation any real system of internal check and effective control. Lack of control leads to innacurate costing and pricing, excessive and 'dead' stocks, excessive work-in-progress and insufficient flexibility of production. Interesting both as industrial history and as a clear exposition of good management principals. This first edition measures approx. 8.5" x 5.5", has 295 pages including the index and weighs 540g. I would rate its condition as very good, with sound, clean covers, save for slight spine-darkening. The binding is tight and the text and diagrams clean, with minor tanning to the page edges. There is a library pocket on the front pastedown and stamps on the copyright page and first text page.

'The Good Terrorist' is a book of enormous power, demonstrating Lessing's unusual insight and narrative abilities at their very best. This book measures 8.5" x 5.5", has 370 pages and weighs around 640g. I would rate the condition of the book and dustjacket as very good. The full leather bindings are worn and a lttle friable, but clean and sound overall (see photos). The bindings are tight and secure throughout. The text and illustrations are evenly age-toned, but clean and free from foxing. The endpapers and page block edges are marbled and there are no labels or inscriptions. Overall, an attractive little set of early Beaumarchais volumes at an affordable price. There is foxing to one side of a front free endpaper and a stylishly penned owner's inscription. the dustjacket is still bright and vibrant, but with chips to the top and bottom edges and loss to the lower spine (see photo). PUBLISHING DETAILS: Stated first edition of this Mike Hammer classic noir, famously filmed by Robert Aldrich. Published by E P Dutton of New York in 1952. 251 pages. Size; 7.5" x 5". Weight; 320g. CONDITION: I would rate this as very good minus. The original orange cloth covers, with blind embossed title to the front and silver title to the spine, are sound and clean, save for tape residue marks (see photo) on the front and back. The binding remains tight and secure. The text is mostly clean and bright, with just the odd mark and a foxing spot to the edge of the page block. The tape residues go on the endpapers also, but there are no inscriptions. The book is accompanied by a loose-laid card with the author's inscription 'Hi John - Mickey Spillane' in his characteristic style. PUBLISHING DETAILS: Very early edition of this much admired collection of light verse and prose, this being the second volume of two, published by Guillaume Cavelier of Paris in 1691. 240 speckle edged pages. Size; 16 x 9 cms (6.5" x 4"). Weight; 195g (7 ounces). CONDITION: I would rate this as very good. The full period speckled calf covers, with 5 raised bands to the spine, which also has gilt decorations and red moroccan spine labels, are generally clean and sound, with just a little wear (see photo). The binding is sound and tight throughout - probably rebound at some time. The text, with elaborate vignette woodcut ornamentation throughout, is clean and sound. There is a tear with small loss (not affecting the text) to the bottom corner of page 169/70. The endpapers are a delightful combed pattern - not, I would think, original. Weight; 1250g, so please check for additional shipping costs, as standard rates will not apply. CONDITION: I would rate this as very good. The navy blue, blind-embossed covers are worn at the extremities and a little age-soiled, but basically sound, as is the binding, which remains tight, save for a little easing at some of the internal signatures. The text and illustrations are mostly clean, though with some marks and flecks of light foxing here and there. The colour plates are all present. 5 of the black and white illustrations have been neatly coloured in, with scarcely a detrimental effect.
