This is a first soft-cover edition of The Royal Navy in Old Photographs, by the English naval officer Wilfred Pym Trotter (1897-1984), published in 1975. (I also have The Victorian and Edwardian Army in Old Photographs listed here.)
It is a wonderful cornucopia of images dating from the 1840s to just prior to the first world war. The captions are great and the photographs themselves are mostly of extraordinary quality given the time they were taken. More than anything however, the breadth of subjects captured makes this book stand apart from many picture books about the Royal Navy, and the sailors and officers themselves are often the focus, though rarely posed in pristine uniforms, but rather shown at their work. Beautiful collection.
176 pages with 190 photos. The covers are darkening but the inside is in excellent condition.

This is a program from a 1976 production of No Sex Please, We're British at the Strand Theatre, London. This is a famous play that the critics panned, but audiences loved--it ran from 1971 to 1987 - 6,761 performances.
This production starred Doris Hare, McDonald Hobley and Arthur Howard.
Mint condition.

Secret of the Waving Bamboos (no 'The') This book is undated; it was published after the war and the author died in 1950, so c 1947. Includes 13 black and white illustrations.The dust jacket is in excellent condition, with normal wear marks. The book has obviously not been read. It has a pale blue tweed cover with scarlet type on the spine. Aside from a faint trace of red pencil on the inside back cover it is absolutely pristine. Not a lot is known about Arthur Waterhouse. He wrote several best-selling books for teens, mostly adventure tales, and several stories about horses and dogs. Many of his stories were broadcast on radio, as well as translated into other languages. He was from Lancashire, lived in Leeds and died in Blackpool. Some of his other titles were Jenny from Ireland, Dark Champion, Wings for Pinky, Rogues of the Fells, and Rungate Manor. This is a first edition (UK 1975) of Fighting Ships of World War II, written by the British historian John Norton Westwood. It is an interesting selection of various types of ships from the navies of the warring powers, with descriptions and details. There is a photograph or table on every page.160 pages. I have the dust jacket but it's in terrible condition. The original ownersigned the front endpaper. There is a rub to the edgeof the cover, and a a couple of faint marks on the cover, hence the price. The inside is in perfect condition.

My Baby Just Cares for Me is a jazz standard written by Walter Donaldson with lyrics by Gus Kahn. Written for the film version of the musical comedy Whoopee! (1930), the song became a signature tune for Eddie Cantor who sang it in the movie. A stylized version of the song by Nina Simone, recorded in1957, was a top 10 hit after it was used in a 1987 commercial for Chanel No 5, and resulted in a renaissance for Simone. Over the years, it has been recorded by many stars, from Frank Sinatra to Cyndi Lauper, Marlene Dietrich to Michael Buble.
Whoopee!
is a 1930 American pre-Code musical comedy directed by Thornton Freeland and starring Eddie Cantor, Ethel Shutta, Paul Gregory, and Eleanor Hunt. It was photographed in two-color Technicolor. Its plot closely follows the 1928 stage show produced by Florenz Ziegfeld.

This is a copy of Where magazine London for the week of December 26, 1976.
The cover feature is Irene, which was playing at the Adelphi Theatre. The actor shown is John Pertwee.
Inside, there is a full listing of the shows playing that week, and there is a map of the West End on the back.
There are the expected creases but it is in excellent condition.

The Conspirators is a novel written by Alexandre Dumas and Auguste Maquet, and published in 1843. Dumas reworked a preliminary version by Maquet; this was the beginning of a collaboration which produced 36 novels and plays. The novel is set in 1718, and its subject is a conspiracy against the regency of Philippe d'Orléans, who led France during the infancy of Louis XV.
The Conspirators is considered to be Dumas greatest work.
This copy is dated 1920-1925.
Burgundy Boards with bright gold lettering and design on the spine.

This is a near-perfect copy of this book, save two things; someone put a drink down on the cover, and someone removed the front endpaper. Just the front cover needs cleaning; the rest of the book is in excellent condition. The exterior spine is just as you see it in the photo; the interior spine is perfect.

This is a 1st Edition of Manisty of the School House : Public School Story, by A.L. Haydon (Arthur Lincoln,1872-1964)
It was published by Frederick Warne, London, 1926.
There seem to be differing covers for the first editions; this copy is as above, i.e. 'Public School Story', whereas others say that their books say 'A Public School Story'. As if the typesetter for the original left out the 'A' in the title and they had to quickly reprint it.
The dust jacket here is not perfect and has a lot of wear marks. But it has done its job because the book is absolutely pristine. Never read, no marks of any kind, fully intact, with thick, high-quality paper and lovely colour. 281 pages plus ads, dark orange boards etched with unfaded black type.

There is a book plate on the front endpaper. It reads 'Awarded to Donna Reynolds for Attendance at the Morning Service', Wesley Y.W.L'

J Howard Brown was a British author who wrote very popular books for boys. Other titles include Tubby, or Right About Face!, and The Master of the Rebel First.
Whitedown Chums was originally published in 1908. This is a very high-quality reprint published in 1930 by S.W. Partridge & Co, London, as Part of the British Boys Library, and under the imprint Illustrated Reward Books.
It is 130 pages of extremely thick paper. It is 5" x 7.5". The spine is unbroken—it was never read. The pages are clean; there are no marks of any kind.
The dust jacket is in extremely good condition, with brilliant fresh colour and just a tiny amount of shelf wear. And there's a small hole in the jacket, over the spine
Under the dust cover, there are lovely dark red boards etched with black image of boys playing rugby. The spine is dark red etched with black type and a black design. There's a tiny white mark on the spine—'not sure what it is; it can probably be removed.
