Florence: Arena Goldoni, 1919. First Editions (1919.) A complete run of Craig's 'The Mask' published in Florence. Sixteen volumes bound in publishers ¼ vellum over glazed grey boards. Three volumes are folio (13" by 9") and thirteen volumes 8vo (9 ½" by 6 ½".) Craig (1872-1966) was an English modernist theatre practitioner; he worked as an actor, director and scenic designer, as well as developing an influential body of theoretical writings. He was the son of actress Dame Ellen Terry. He directed a great deal of his creative energies into the development of "The Mask", creating what became the first International theatre magazine, and one of the most cutting-edge expressions of modernist thought, art and practice as regards to the theory and artistry of the theatre. Wallace Berman (1926-1976) was an American experimental filmmaker, assemblage, and collage artist and a crucial figure in the history of post-war California art. Los Angeles: Felix Landau, 1966. The Vienna School of Fantastic Realism was a group of artists founded in Vienna in 1946. It includes (most of them were 15 at the time) Ernst Fuchs, Erich (Now Arik) Brauer, , Wolfgang Hutter, Anton Lehmden, Zeev Kun and Fritz Janschka, all students of Professor Albert Paris Gütersloh at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. It was Gütersloh's emphasis on the techniques of the Old Masters that gave the fantastic realist painters a grounding in realism (expressed with a clarity and detail some have compared to early Flemish painting) combined with religious and esoteric symbolism. Older members of the group were Rudolf Hausner and Kurt Regschek. This was the first American exhibition held at Felix Landau Gallery in January of 1966. The first appearance of Dick and Jane. A revolutionary concept conceived by Zerna Sharp. In 1927 she visited the beach, studied children's speech patterns, and observed the way they spoke to one another. She brought her ideas to William Elson publisher of a Pupil's Hand Chart.
