Very minor wear and staining to the cloth boards. Corners and spine ends bumped, and with minor cloth loss. The gilt titling on the spine is partially faded but still legible. Textblock is in near fine condition. Likely the best surviving copy. Richmond is a very rare and very early example of true crime fiction that helped give birth to the detective story. This book is in good plus condition. Moderate bumping to both ends of spine. Moderate scuffing to all edges of boards. Discoloration at the bottom end of spine. Previous owners book plate on front pastedown. Authors signature on title page. Dust jacket is in fair condition. Heavy chipping to both ends of spine and around edges of jacket. Moderate sunning to entire jacket. Book club edition stated on bottom of front flap. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is one of Hemingway's biggest literary triumphs. Written in 1939 and finished in 1940, the first edition was published in October of that year, with a print run of 75,000 copies. Foxing to the fore-edges of the textblock with scattered foxing throughout. Two spots of rubbing to the fore-edge of the textblock. Lacks the frontispiece and the rear advertisements.
