Eleven original blocks, the artist personally drew and cut the key blocks for printing. The five-color silkscreen plate has been hand printed by Dan Wingren the other two-color plates have been printed by letterpress from the original blocks. Volume I, 568pp., illus., excellent color photos, index, maps, references, gilt-stamped brown title panels on 4to blue cloth. Volume II, first edition, 2000, index, 598pp, color photos. Matched set. Printed on coated stock. Bright clean tight set with uncirculated library stamps inside. For example the Acer has 29 pages and states "our native acers (Maple, boxelder) are among the most easily recognized of all our Texas woody plants when they bare fruits. ". These encyclopedias are loaded with useful interesting information, excellent color photographs help with identification. Rare.

SIGNED and dated CAA lower right, framed dimensions 17 1/2 x 14 label on back "General Store Gallery / Austin, Texas" and sealed. Photos on request. James Boren was one of the deans of modern western painters in Texas. Born in Waxahachie, Boren was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America and became one of its most celebrated and honored members. His preferred media was watercolor. Few oils have come to market. In the late 1960s he and fellow CAA member Melvin Warren, both established homes and studios in the small central Texas town of Clifton and helped turn that city into something of a western artist's colony. This small gem in oil is rare to see and not offered for sale previously, having been purchased by me from the original owner in San Antonio in the early 1980's. Only a few oils have turned up on the auction sights, most recent items are $3,000 - 8,000.00.

The text based partly on an earlier sketch by "HONDO" and written jointly by the painter and by Clyde Walton Hill, author of "SHINING TRAILS". Foreword, contents, 7 plates, and text. Marbled endpapers, 28pp., gilt titles printed on lower wrap, oblong brown/tan cow hide patterned silky wraps. 6 3/8 x 9 1/2 inches RARE. The series of pastels titled Twenty-four Hours with the Herd depicts an iconic Texas scene: the cattle drive. Artist Frank Reaugh completed the series in the 1930s, but they portray an earlier chapter of Texas history, when fences had not yet crossed the landscape, and men and cattle moved freely on the open range. Born in Illinois in 1860, Reaugh moved to Texas when he was fifteen. His family grew cotton, but young Reaugh was interested in art and nature, and divided his time between the family farm and studying art in St. Louis and Paris. Some light wear to these heavy buckram bindings, with publisher's reinforced hinges; the set is made to hold up under heavy use. Upper outside hinge of vol. V beginning to tear. Superior copy in every way. Interesting chapter on Indian medicine, appendix of several hundred early Texas doctors. A graduate of Johns Hopkins in 1909, Dr. Nixon practiced medicine in Texas for 56 years and he covers much more here than his professional interest in medicine of his day, as well as Native Indian medicinal practices, the Spanish period, French Doctors, early Mexican period 1821-1836 and the Republic. FINE/fine. 349pp., 33 illustrations and 9 maps, including a double page map of the route of exploration made by Neighbors through West Texas in 1854, index, footnotes, biblio, brown cloth, gilt spine titles, price unclipped dj spine faded, in mylar. Neighbors arrived in Texas at the age of 20 during the revolution and was assassinated in the line of duty in his forty-fourth year. He took part in the most important developments, he served as an officer in the army of the Republic of Texas, as a Texas Ranger and prisoner of war in Mexico for two years, he was appointed commissioner to organize the counties of West Texas an an Indian Agent for Texas and the U.S. His progressive Indian policies would cost him his life.

Oblong 4to gilt-stamped green cloth with small area loss of coloron the bottom edge of the lower board. DJ with minor edge wear and faint soil on white back is very good in mylar cover. Probably the most sought after of all Texas art books. Includes the work of Robert and Julian his son whose last paintings, Dawn in the Hills and Autumn Tapestry, were shown in the 1922 exhibition of the National Academy of Design in N.Y.

DJ in archival mylar cover. In custom slipcase. This is the first biography of Burleson. He was an Indian fighter, statesman in the Republic of Texas serving as vice president and political foe of Sam Houston. He was best known as the commanding general at the Siege of Bexar in 1835 and second in command to Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto. Scarce. Jenkins died before his ideas for this book were completed. Texas author and historian Ken Kesselus, rescued it from oblivion, did the research and wrote the final book.
