Descripción:
Chicago: Ken, Inc., 1938. Magazine. VG. Soft cover. Folio. Entire set, beginning with Volume I, No. 1, April 7, 1938, and including all Hemingway issues, though Volume III, No. 1, January 12, 1939, 14 issues total, each in original wraps, light general wear-only at all issues, a very clean, bright set overall, with no mailing labels obscuring the front covers except the final issue, which also has damp-stains noted at first and final few pages at the margins, and which has the wraps separating a few inches at spine ends; a few issues have a vertical crease at front wrap, apparently from being folded and mailed. A complete gathering of the 14 issues of Ken with the dispatches sent by the American author and adventurer from war torn Spain, including Volume I, No. 4, May 19, 1938, with the lone fiction contribution -- the short-story, The Old Man at the Bridge. Very scarce thus. Please note, this is a heavy set and will require extra postage..

Garden City: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., 1943. Book. Good. Hardcover. Inscribed by Author(s). 8vo. Four-line signed inscription at front fly of book, "For Don DeVoss / from his friend / Margaret Mitchell / August 12th, 1944." Unknown provenance, but we do know the author was very active during WWII, including writing letters, offering humor and encouragement, and sympathy, to enlisted men. We also know from many examples of her signature that she used a more formal, controlled hand -- including the capital E's in both words of her name -- for certain things, such as signing copies of Gone With The Wind, and a less formal, more free-form signature for other things, such as personal letters. We have seem numerous examples of both from various MM archives. We have been unable to determine the identity of the recipient. The book itself is a good copy, with minor general wear, in a somewhat worn and soiled dust jacket, with shallow chipping at the spine ends and ends of folds,…

Entire issue, December, 1866, in original wraps, very light general wear-only, overall very clean and bright, with untrimmed edges, and a few tiny faded blue ink splashes near bottom edge. In the single issue of Harper's, Twain was not credited, but he is noted as "Mark Swain" in the contents page that accompanies bound volumes. This item is most often found in bound volumes; this is the original, single issue, in unusually nice shape..

Anyone not finding sufficient love interest is at liberty, while reading it, to insert whatever love interest he or she may have at the time. NY: Thomas Selzer Inc., 1924. Magazine. VG. Soft cover. 1st Edition. 8vo. Entire issue, Volume I, Number V, May - June, 1924, in original wraps printed in blue, light general wear-only, overall very clean and bright, with spine mildly darkened, and a slight nick at spine tail, both as noted in pictures; yapp ends fully intact, with none of the usual chipping or tearing. An unusually nice copy. The author's non-fiction commentary on contemporary happenings in America, including literary criticism. From the opening paragraph, "An American citizen, not yet 35 years old, of French-German-Jewish parentage, writing in the Paris Sunday Literary Supplement of the World's Greatest Newspaper under the name of Louis Gay says: 'Remember that less than twenty years ago the reading matter to be found in the home of the average American of means -- the American who sent his boys to college -- was composed almost entirely of the New England poets, the Christian Register, and the Youth's…

Boston: Perry Mason Company, 1902. Magazine. VG. Soft cover. Elephant Folio. Entire issue, May 29, 1902, newspaper style, light general wear-only, horizontal mailing crease all but gone, no tears or chips, no mailing label, small rust spots and holes at spine from staples, which have been neatly removed, leaving issue fully intact, but not attached, a very good copy overall, This is the first appearance of this story that was published later in Century Magazine, 1908, in a different version with significant changes. In this earlier version, the man survives but with frostbite and a better understanding of the impersonal, unsympathetic attitude of the natural world toward mankind. The later version is widely known as among the author's most technically masterful and popular stories. A very scarce, important item in the London canon.

Pittsburgh: The Scholastic Publishing Company, 1931. Magazine. VG. Soft cover. 4to. Entire issue, Volume 18, Number 7, May 2, 1931, in original printed wraps, generally bright and clean with very light wear-only, and a bit of dust soiling at top and fore edge. In 1931, while yet a senior at West Seattle High School, Seattle, Washington, the author -- who would go on to fame, and tragedy, in Hollywood and the theater -- entered and won $100 from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a writing contest for high school students sponsored by Scholastic Magazine, with the present, controversial essay. In her autobiography, Will There Really Be A Morning?, Farmer wrote that the essay was influenced by her reading of Friedrich Nietzsche: "He expressed the same doubts, only he said it in German: Gott ist tot. God is dead. This I could understand. I was not to assume that there was no God, but I could find no evidence in my life that He existed or that He had ever shown any particular interest in me. I…
