Longman, Hurst, Rees,Orme, and Brown, 1817. Hardcover. Very Good. Third British edition. Three volumes 8vo, contemporary calf gilt, dark brown morocco lettering pieces gilt, page edges marbled, Vol. II without half title, five engraved maps, plus the large folding map frontis. Very shallow chipping to the foredges of the boards, rear board of Vol. II detaching, the text blocks are quite fresh, p.o. bookplates. A few tears to the folding map with cellotape repairs verso not affecting the image. This map is widely considered to be one of the most important maps of the United States. According to Wheat, this map is 'one of the most influential ever drawn . . . This was a great map, a milestone of mapping in its time . . .'

Compton & Co., 1876. Hardcover. Good. If you're reading this, you already know all the glorious details about this book, and don't need to have them repeated (oblong elephant folio, birds-eye pen and ink drawings by Camille Dry . . .). This is the version with the rust-colored cloth. The corners are rubbed through, it has been recased, the gilt on the front board is bright and not chipped or rubbed, there is some rubbing to the black parts of the devices, and some light rubbing to one of the bevels. Now bear with with me while I describe in detail the text block. There's a p.o. signature dated January 1, 1876, light dampstain at the lower right corner of the title page, closed tear at the center of the right margin from the Contents through Plate 5 and the tears go slightly into the images of Plates 1, 2 and 3, binding threads exposed at pages 18 and 19, right margin of Plate 5 damaged, Plate 18 separated and the left margin is chipped, Plate 43 separated and the right margin is… Leer más

Easton Press, 1994. Numbered. Hardcover. Fine. No. 9 of 250 copies, signed by Gorbachev on the limitation page. The book presents as new in like slipcase. It does however have the Easton bookplate, with the p.o. name in rubber stamp, affixed to the front pastedown.

John P. Jewett & Company, 1852. Hardcover. Very Good. First issue with all points called for by BAL. Two volumes 8vo sumptuously rebound in 3/4 tan levant on marbled paper; raised bands; titles, ruling and florets in gilt; top edges gilt. Bindings tight and square, light rubbing at the corners, widely scattered very light foxing, the text block being generally bright. Bookplates of Harvard College Library, noting 'Gift of William Augustus White (Class of 1863)', the well-known collector of English printed books of the Elizabethan era. Each cr page has a small rubber stamp of the Harvard College Library, April 9, 1918. Beneath that and on the bookplates are smaller rubber stamps saying Harvard College Library Released. Housed in a custom cloth slipcase.

Touchstone Publishers, 1967. Hardcover. Near Fine. Elephant folio solander box, blue cloth, title in gilt. Here's the collation of the item we have. First is what appears to be the title page to one of the last sets, stating '15 poems by John Ciardi/15 etchings by Gabor Peterdi'. That is followed by the wrap-around for the etchings, and then the title page for a set numbered XLII. It says, in full, 'Portfolios I-XVI containing a suite of 16 signed and numbered original etchings in color printed on Arches, and one suite of 16 signed and numbered original etchings in color printed on Auvergne, plus one of the original copper plates. Taylor & Maury, 1853. Hardcover. Good. Nine volumes 8vo, publisher's blind-tooled brown cloth, spine titles in gilt. Very light and small dampstain to a corner of the last few signatures in Vol. 1, scuff to the cloth on the front board of Vol. 1, 1/2' chip at the top of the spine on Vol. 2, shallow chipping elsewhere, very light dampstain at the bottom corner of about half the pages in Vol. 9, most corners rubbed through, all prelims heavily foxed, widely scattered very light foxing elsewhere.

Taschen, 2017. Numbered. Hardcover. Like New. No. 135 of 1,963 copies, the first 250 of which include a photo proof signed by photographer, Steve Schapiro. Folio in decorated red boards, in a cardbord slipcase, with the signed photo in a separate red portfolio, all in the original shipping carton with the book number on a sticker on the bottom edge. All entirely As New. This edition was issued by Taschen at $3,000 and sold out.

Francis P. Harper, 1893. Hardcover. Near Fine. Four volumes 8vo in publisher's green cloth, titles in gilt. No. 365 of 1,000 copies. Bindings tight and square, all hinges firm, the title page of Vol. I very neatly separated. The slightest touch of rubbing at the corners, one very tiny slit at the top of each spine, very shallow rubbing and loss of cloth at the top of the spine of Vol. IV. The contents of Vol. IV, including the fold-out maps, are pristine. A lovely set overall.

Excusum Anno Salutis, 1572. Hardcover. Very Good. Part I in three books; bound with Liber Quartus; Libri VII, VIII & IX; and Libri X, XI & XII. Sectional title pages dated 1573, engraved headpieces and initials. Very thick small 8vo, contemporary blind tooled pigskin, manuscript spine title. First few leaves chipped at lower right corner, scattered chipping with loss elsewhere, no text affected. Widely scattered very light foxing and a few dampstains, also very light and not affecting text. A portion of the index to Liber IV missing. The binding has light staining, with one larger darker spot at the lower left corner of the front board.

Boni & Liveright, 1922. Numbered. Hardcover. Near Fine. 8vo in original tree calf, sympathetically rebacked with gilt ruled spine and red leather title label, folding map following the preface, errata slip affixed to the rear pastedown. Binding tight and square, very light rubbing at the corners, small chip in the middle of the spine, 1' separation at one fold of the map, heavy foxing to the prelims, moderate foxing elsewhere. Housed in a nice clamshell box with gilt spine title.

Des Moines: Northwest Pub. Co., 1909. Hardcover. Fair. Elephant folio (24' X 18'), at one time it was 3/4 leather, black boards. Backstrip missing, both boards present but hanging on by the threads, the leather on the corners is mostly chipped away, in other words the binding is not pretty. On the other hand, the contents are quite nice. All the plats are in color, as are the maps of Missouri and the U.S. Many of the plats and maps are double page. Don't be confused. The plat book for St. Louis County is much more scarce than the plat book for the City of St. Louis (two different jurisdictions). We've owned another of these, and have never seen one with the binding intact. Please request a shipping quote before ordering.

James R. Osgood Co., 1883. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First state, with both points present (flaming portrait on page 441 and 'St. Louis Hotel' on page 443). Original full morocco, rebacked with the original spine and red leather title labels laid down, marbled endsheets and page edges. Binding tight and square, corners and joints rubbed, shallow chipping to the original spine ends and one of the title labels, small spot of damage to a few words of text on page 443, text block generally fresh.

T. Saint for the author, 1770. Hardcover. Very Good. Large thick 8vo, modern 3/4 calf, marbled paper-covered boards, gilt ruling, raised bands with florets in the compartments, red and black title labels, marbled endsheets. Very Good: binding tight and square, bookseller notes in pencil on the ffep, small area of loss to the title page neatly mended and backed, light foxing throughout but not distracting. Includes wood engravings by T. Bewick without attribution. A rather attractive copy.

London: Seeley, Burnside, and Seeley, 1844. First Edition. Hardcover. Collectible - Good. First edition, in three volumes (all subsequent editions are in four volumes). 8vo in 20th century library binding of blue cloth, pages trimmed and stained red; the trimming is not close to the text. Gilt spine titles with library number at the base of the spines. Each volume has the bookplate of Newcastle Upon Tyne Public Libraries on the front pastedown, and residue from removal of a card from the ffep; small rubber stamp of the library on the title pages; and a 'withdrawn' stamp on the verso of the title pages. All of the bindings are tight and square, the text blocks are generally bright although there is scattered very light foxing. No underlining or marginalia. All of the plates are present. The folding plate in Vol. I has a 1' separation on one the folds. Certainly a more than presentable copy of a title that is quite scarce in the first edition.

The upper board of Vol. I is present but detached, the gutter of Vol. II is split two inches from the bottom, penny-sized chip in the leather at the top of the spine of Vol. II, corners rubbed through. The text blocks are not toned; foxing varies from none to very light to moderate.
