First Printing dated May, 1963. 15pp. Just slightly rubbed and tanned with a light, tiny crease to the edge of the rear, else a near fine copy in publisher's stapled wraps, Written by King while he was imprisoned in Birmingham, Alabama, the letter responds to a statement made by eight white clergymen who had criticized the civil rights protests and called for patience and calm. King argued that the protests were necessary for the civil rights movement, and that the clergymen's call for patience was actually a call for inaction in the face of injustice. He also argued that the segregation laws in Birmingham were unjust and violated the principles of Christianity.

A good only copy with significant association. Housed in a custome folding case. J. Max Barber was an African American civil rights activist and educator who with Du Bois and others founded the short-lived, but influential Niagara Movement in 1905. Led by Du Bois the group was named after the location of its first meeting, which took place at Niagara Falls, and its members included prominent figures such as Ida B. Wells, Mary Church Terrell, and William Monroe Trotter. A precursor to the modern Civil Rights Movement, it laid the foundation for many of the strategies and tactics used in the struggle for racial justice in the decades that followed, going against what they saw as the more conservative tactic of Booker T. Foolscap octavo [7.5 inches], three quarter polished red morocco over marbled boards, top edges gilt. 90 Humorous plates by George Cruikshank with 10 portraits. Light occasional rubbing to extremities and small blemishes to the spines, else a nice set. Bookplate of publishing firm Street and Smith president Ormond Smith on each front pastedowns. Nineteen volumes complete comprising of Humphrey Clinker, Roderick Random, Peregrine Pickle, Tom Jones, Joseph Andrews, Amelia, Vicar of Wakefield, Tristram Shandy, sentimental Journey, Don Quixote, Gil Blas, and Robinson Crusoe.

Hardcover. #14 of 100cc inscribed and signed by Santiago with original painting [6" by 6"] matted on cloth folder; All items housed in a black cloth folding clamshell box. Light scuffing to exterior, else book and painting are in fine condition.

Small ink name on front free endpaper, else a very good hardback in a price clipped and lightly edgeworn jacket that has a small spot of loss at the top of the front joint. Inscribed and signed by Mingus on the second blank thus: To A Good Man/ Jerry/ Charles Mingus.

NY: Public Education Association, 1962. Paperback. Very good. Paperback. Pages heavily tanned, wraps edgeworn and darkened with a crease to the rear else a good example. Signed and dated by Picasso in grease crayon with a small drawing of a head on the title page. Two one centimeter spots of damage to signature where the verso of the front free endpaper stuck, but still all there and priced commensurate with the issue.

[Atlanta]: Henderson Travel Service, 1973. Resist-dyed images printed on rough Batik-type cloth. 22 by 15.5 inches [56 by 39 cm]; 23 by 33 inches [58 by 83 cm]. Two banners picturing stylized elephants, zebras, gazelle, and a giraffe with the Henderson logo used in the early 1970s, with the slogan 'Does it All' on the larger example. Fraying to edges, fold lines from storage with a few small moisture stains and a small tear to the bottom right of the larger banner at the giraffe's legs, else both are very good examples. An uncommon piece from a company that was flying African-American travelers overseas in an era where large parts of their own country were restricted from completely free travel. It's not clear whether these were used as in-house advertisements or given away as souvenirs to clients, but they're the first we've seen. Berlin: Verlag der Neuen Gesellschaft, 1929. First edition. 64pp. Light foxing overall, else very good in publisher's wraps. Despite the sensational nature of its design, the book was a careful sociological study of the nature of the police force and the complacency of bourgeois society. First and only edition of this study of the murders committed by Peter Kurten, the Vampire of Berlin published in the midst of the crimes and before the killer's identity was known. Following the capture and execution of Kurten authorities severed his head and split it in half to search for a physiological cause of his crimes; after none was found the severed head was mummified eventually making its way after World War II to the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum where it still resides today displayed hanging from a hook. First Printing. 128pp. Ink name and tiny stain on edge of front free endpaper, pages tanned, darkened and lightly rubbed overall with a small abraded spot at the head of the spine, else very good in publisher's stapled wraps. A work on boosting patriotism by this pioneer of public relations best known for his book 'Propaganda'.

Pittsburgh: Carnegie-Mellon University Press, 1980. Hardcover. Very good. Hardcover. First Edition. Fine hardback in a jacket that shows just a hint of rubbing to the rear panel. Nice copy of the uncommon cloth issue of the poet's first regularly published book.

Portrait frontis and decorated title page with 5 additional full page woodcuts and 15 in text. 19th century polished calf with gilt rules and corner emblems, gilt dentelles, and marbled endpapers. Ink name at top of title page, light rubbing to the edges, joints a bit cracked at the top, else a much nicer example than usually turns up.

Light wear to extremities, else very good in publisher's pebbled burgundy cloth with original owner's name embossed in gilt on the lower portion of the front. From an ad in the rear, a 1950-51 edition was planned, but it appears it never came to fruition. OCLC locates five holdings: Yale, Emory, Northwestern, University of Southern Maine, and Johnson C. Smith University.
