Octavo, 336 pages with four-page publisher's ads in front and seven full-page illustrations. Very good with professional repair to spine--rebacked with original spine laid down--and interior hinges. A beautiful signed copy of Didion's second book, suitable to give as a gift. In it she describes her experiences in California during the 1960s, most famously her impressions of the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco during the neighborhood's heyday as a countercultural center. In contrast to the more Utopian image of the milieu promoted by counterculture sympathizers of the day, Didion offers a rather grim portrayal of the goings-on.

Offsetting to endpapers and light stain to lower right edge of first 20 pages, otherwise clean and tight. Complete with 123 pages including blank pages between each page of text for taking notes (as issued). An early Indian cookery book compiled anonymously by a "Thirty-Five Years' Resident" and containing recipes and cooking methods on rice, curries, soups, fish, vegetables, preserves, liqueurs and more, along with information on medicines, perfumes and cosmetics. An excellent copy.

Clarke and Isaac Asimov (two of the "Big Three" of classic science fiction writing along with Robert Heinlein) within the context of the famous "Clarke-Asimov Treaty." Clarke and Asimov first met in New York City in 1953, and they traded friendly insults and gibes for decades. At some point they established an oral agreement, the "Clarke-Asimov Treaty," which stipulated that when asked who was better, Clarke would say he was the better science fiction writer and Asimov was the better science writer (with the other being the second-best in each respective genre). Very good plus with hinges a bit tender but holding well. Neat gift inscription on flyleaf, otherwise bright and clean. A very attractive copy of this landmark 19th-century novel.

An excellent copy of this early science fiction novel which explores the theme of the Übermensch (Superman) in the character of John Wainwright, whose supernormal human mentality inevitably leads to conflict with normal human society.
