NY: Ed Sanders, (1962-1965).. Twelve issues (1-4, 5:1-5-9), all in 11 x 8 1/2 inch side stapled wrappers. All issues are very near fine or better with the following exceptions: #2. Foxing to page edges, small pale stain to lower right corner of front panel. #5:1. Light stain to front cover, diminishing through seven leaves, mostly affecting the right margin. #5:3. Small corner crease to lower right corner. #5:8. The fragile Warhol thermofax cover is present but detached, with a bit of loss around the staples. All up, a handsome set of this mimeographed legend “from a secret location on the lower east side.”

[San Francisco: Bruce Conner], (1970).. First edition.. Fifteen 11 x 7 1/4 inch lithographs with original tissue guards, housed in a portfolio with gilt stamping to the front panel. All elements fine. One of 80 (of 90) copies. The lithographs were printed at Kaiser Graphics in Oakland on Rives BFK paper. Portfolio hand made by Schuberth Bindery. Typography (title and colophon cards) by Grabhorn-Hoyem. Each of the fifteen prints is numbered, dated, and SIGNED by Conner in the lower margin. A beautiful production.

NY: Viking/Penguin Books, (1987).. Uncorrected proof.. 463 pp. Fine in printed blue wrappers. The uncommon advance copy of Wallace’s first book. Precedes the simultaneously published cloth and paperback first editions, as well as the advance reading copy. One of the scarcest items in the Wallace canon.

NY: VVV, (1942-1944).. Four numbers in three issues (2/3 being a double) in wrappers. Droplet mark to the front cover, of #1, with sunned spine, #2/3 near fine with original chicken wire replaced, #4 has a small droplet mark on rear cover and light wear to yapp bottom edge, else very near fine. Housed in a custom clamshell box by Peggy Gotthold at Foolscap Press. Covers by Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, and Matta, respectively. A major Surrealist vehicle presenting work by the usual suspects (Breton and Ernst were editorial advisors), but still: WCW, Caillois, Lévi-Strauss, Aimé Césaire, Leonora Carrington, Valentine Penrose, Arthur Cravan, Robert Motherwell, Irving Penn, Picasso, Tanguy, and that’s just the first issue. NY: 7 Poets Press, [1962]. . First edition.. [44 pp]. Fine in stapled wrappers. Original mailing envelop present, addressed to Marvin Malone (Wormwood Review) with the return label for Carl Larsen, the book’s editor and publisher. Krumhansl 8.

NY: Privately Printed,, 1942.. First edition.. 72 pp. Very near fine in printed paper-covered boards with cloth spine. No dust jacket, as issued. Dated (1980) and INSCRIBED by Merrill to his long-time editor Harry Ford and his wife Kathleen, “For Harry + Kathleen / - who will share the fate of / Paolo + Francesca if they / read further than this page / James.”

1945.. 24 x 18 inch watercolor. Pinholes to three corners, else very near fine. Dated (12/46) and SIGNED by Miller on the shoulder of the figure. Reproduced as plate #2 in John Kidis’ unauthorized 1950 edition of Miller’s THE WATERS REGLITTERIZED. From the collection of Wormwood Review editor Marvin Malone, with several supporting letters from the bookseller who sold this work to him in 1961.

NY: The Floating Bear,, 1961-1969.. But for the rare #1 and #24, which was largely confiscated by the authorities (here present in photostat), all issues of this most excellent newsletter. Each issue is complete and very good or better condition, with most being near fine. Six bear a library stamp (five of these are addressed to Tony Weinberger). Other issues mailed to: Jackson Mac Low, Harold Rosenberg, Dan Rice (5), Michael Mulce, Diana Varci, Corinth Books, Wormwood Review (5). The Mulce issue has a holograph note on the verso, “Michael what is your new address? Diane.” Later issues featured cover art by Al Leslie, George Herms, Jess, Robert Branaman, Paolo Lionni, Michael Bowen, Ray Johnson, and Wallace Berman. For the collection:

Los Angles: Black Sparrow,, 1968.. First edition, deluxe numbered & signed issue.. 89 pp. Fine in full cloth with printed spine label. No dust jacket, as issued. Designed and printed by Graham Mackintosh. one of 75 numbered copies SIGNED by Bukowski with an original multi-colored watercolor illustrations SIGNED, “Buk” pasted-onto the third leaf, as issued. The first hardcover book from both the Press and Bukowski. Krumhansl 27c.

Los Angeles: Black Sparrow,, 1973.. First edition, deluxe numbered & signed issue.. 189 pp. Fine in printed paper-covered boards with cloth spine and printed label. Fine unprinted acetate dust jacket. One of 50 numbered copies SIGNED by Bukowski with an original signed abstract painting signed “Buk” bound-in after the title page. Review slip accompanies. (np): (np), (1906).. First edition.. 43 pp. Inked non-authorial initials to least leaf, else near fine in full green cloth with gilt lettering to front cover. A nice tight copy of Rutledge’s first book.

NY: Arrow Editions, (1936).. First edition.. 52 pp. Faint sunning to spine and extrems, else fine in fine dust jacket with a touch of restoration to a short closed tear on the rear panel. Housed in a fine custom clamshell case with leather spine label. Penciled notation “inscribed by Pound” in Larry McMurtry’s hand on the front flyleaf. Witter Bynner’s bookplate inside the front board. Dated (year of pestilence a.d. 1947) and INSCRIBED by Pound, “Regretfully returned to W. Bynner...” with the addition, “+ regards to A.C.” = Alice Corbin, a mutual friend, early editor of POETRY. Gallup B36b.

Kent: Kent State University Libraries,, 1971.. First edition, signed issue.. Thirteen 12 x 10 inch broadsides and a title sheet housed in a printed paper folder. All broadsides fine, folder very near fine with a tiny nick to the bottom edge. Signed broadsides by John Ashbery, James Bertolino, Gwendolyn Brooks, Denise Levertov, Steven Osterlund, and Gary Snyder. Signed and numbered prints by Robert Smithson, M. Begland Sacco, Harvey Quartermain, Fairfield Porter, and Otto Piene. There are prints also by Grace Hartigan and Alex Katz, but these are not signed, as issued.

Toronto & London: Monk Bretton Books,, 1981.. First edition.. Fourteen 20 1/2 x 14 1/2 inch lithographic portraits from life by Montreal artist Morton Rosengarten, each paired with a poem by the respective subject: Margaret Atwood, Earle Birney, Leonard Cohen, Ralph Gustafson, Irving Layton, John Newlove, Alden Nowlan, Michael Ondaatje, P.K. Page, Al Purdy, F.R. Scott, A.J. M. Smith, and Phyllis Webb. Each portrait sheet is numbered and SIGNED by Rosengarten, each broadside signed by the poet with the exception of Smith, who died during production. The whole housed, together with the title page, Jones’ introduction, the artist’s preface, and the colophon, in a black paper-lined buckram folding box, with the title silkscreened to the upper cover. All elements fine. A sumptuous Canadian livre d’artiste. Original prospectus accompanies.

Santa Rosa: Black Sparrow,, 1993.. First edition number & signed issue.. 214 pp. Faint foxing to the top edges, else very near fine in printed paper-covered boards with cloth spine and printed label. Near fine unprinted clear acetate dust jacket. One of 100 numbered copies SIGNED by Berlin. Additionally INSCRIBED by Berlin, “Aug. 1993 / for Bob / with thanks, + love, / always / Lucia.” Laid into this copy is a thirty-two word ALS from Berlin dated August 19, 1993 in part presenting this book, and apologizing for the oversight. The recipient is Robert Callahan of the Turtle Island Foundation, who published Berlin’s second book, ANGELS LAUNDROMAT in 1977.

San Francisco: Arion Press, 1990.. First edition, lettered & signed issue.. xxv + 171 pp. Fine in cloth-covered boards with leather spine. Fine publisher’s slipcase. No dust jacket, as issued. Poems selected by Helen Vendler, with her introduction. Illustrated with six etchings by Richard Diebenkorn. One of 26 lettered copies for use of the participants in the publication SIGNED by Diebenkorn.

NY: Grove Press, [1957].. First US edition, numbered & signed issue.. 72 pp. Light sunning to spine, and to the top of the cloth on the rear panel, else fine in brown quarter cloth with gold stamping. Very near fine clear acetate dust jacket with one tiny chip. One of 250 numbered copies SIGNED by Beckett. His second book, originally published in the UK in 1931. Federman & Fletcher 7.12.

London: Elkin Mathews,, 1909.. First edition.. 51 pp. Expected light scattered foxing, else fine in boards and in the original glassine that is a bit rumpled and edgeworn with a few short tears. Gallup A4a. One of Pound’s own copies, with the label, “From The Venice Library of Ezra Pound & Olga Rudge” inside the front cover. Housed in a custom clamshell case (two lower corners lightly bumped).

San Francisco & Santa Cruz: Kayak, (1964-1984).. 64 issues, all fine in stapled wrappers. One of the best, and longest-lasting, little mags known for its surrealism-inspired clippings of nineteenth-century engravings, fondness for the “found poem,” and no fear of translation.
