Brookfield, Massachusetts: E. Merriam & Co., 1804. Hardcover. Good. 5 1/4 x 5 3/4. Missing the first pages; begins with XI of Preface, which is dated Aug. 16, 1777 Edingburgh (their spelling); then proceeds to "The Key (pages 13-16) The dictionary (Page 17-479) followed byThe Appendix, which is THE SECOND BROOKFIELD EDITION from Brookfield, Massachusetts, dated October1804 and printed by E. Merriam & Co. Thee next page is a Preface followed by "The Proper Names of Persons and Places in the Old and New Testaments. This goes to page 512 which also begins The Names of the Principal CITIES, TOWNS, RIVERS, MOPUNTAINS etc in the known World. The following pages are missing which would have contained The Ancient Philosophers, Patriots, Statesmen Etc. Full leather which has some scuffed areas along the edges. Unmarked except for about four words on page 17 in pencil. There are no pastedown papers. The text pages vary in the amount of general darkening. GOOD++

E. H. Butler & Co., 1968. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Published for the Officers of the Regiment by E. H. Butler & Co." Ex-Library copy with number on paper label on spine and light pencil number on copyright page plus "gift of....." on the next page, plus 2 square inch blacked out area on last free page. "Thomas McKean Philadelphia" on the page before the title page. "Subscription Copy No. 357 is on the page before the title page. The number was hand written. On two blank pages before the "Contents" page are two newspaper articles "Obituary" (March 17, 91) and "The Career of a Soldier (March 17, 1891) Death of Emlen N. Carpenter, Who Saw Much of Southern Prisons". These two glued in newspaper articles caused some darkening where they lay on the adjacent page but this does not distract from the history or text of this nice book. (E. N. Indianapolis, Ind.: A. D. Streight, Publishers, 1864. Hardcover. Good. 6 1/4 x 9 1/2. Thick, 3 3/4 inches. Two sections: Division I is 794 pages, Division II is "Household Department", 333 pages. Full leather with two black titles on the spine. Illustrated including frontispiece of Dr. King with tissue. No ownership markings. Some foxing is present. End papers are marbled. The leather shows some scaring to the shiny surface. The spine front hinge is broken loose and the spine back hinge is cracking but firm; the bottom edge of the spine has a 1/2 inch vertical tear. The spine ends are missing a very small piece of leather. This book was sold by subscription only and there is a note, dated Oct. 26th, 1865 present stating that the book will be hand delivered on "the 6th of November" so please have the money ready. RARE

Boston: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Co., 1912. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine. 5 1/4 x 7 1/2. 320 pages + 6 of ads. Unmarked and bright except for the # '27' written on the first free page. The pictorial gray boards show almost no signs of wear. The pages show some of age toning. No dust jacket. SEE PHOTOS - SCARCE

New York : Ray Long & Richard R. Smith, Inc, 1931. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 5 1/4 x 7 3/4. Margery Stocking. 174 pages; unmarked but showing some age toning. The boards have only one very small rub on the bottom of the front board; otherwise it is without a flaw. The dust jacket, now in a new Brodart, has a darkened spine and slight edge wear to the ends of the spine. Not price clipped ($1.00).

Foxing to end pages and age toned page edges. Full leather boards. Three corners rubbed through; scuffed areas on the leather. Rear leather hinges cracked on the lower 40%. Front leather hinge broken but still attached by one string. SCARCE

New York: Chelsea House, 1928. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 5 1/4 x 7 3/4. 251 pages. Neat owners signature. The paper is age toned, mostly on the page edges. The front and back paper hinges have been repaired. The green cloth boards show only slight use; fading gilt on the front, dark spine top 1/4 inch, slight rub to the corners. First Edition in book form. VERY SCARCE GOOD+++

New Rochelle, N. Y.: Arlington House, 1969. No Binding. Near Fine/Good. 6 1/4 x 9 1/4. 482 pages. Unmarked except for a few markings in the first part of this book. The only other flaw with this book is a slight age toning to the page edges. The dust jacket, now in a new Brodart, has some edge wear and chips along the bottom edge and top of the spine. Not price clipped ($7.95).

Boston: The Gorham Press, 1909. Hardcover. Very Good. 5 x 7 1/2. Very SCARCE. 146 pages, unmarked. The green cloth boards are slightly rubbed on the corners and the gilt on the spine is somewhat dulled. Not soiled or bumped. The page top edge is gilt. The leading edge of the pages have 3 very small dark spots and the bottom edges have a couple pages with very slightly roughness due to the page separation by hand. VERY GOOD++. The World Cat shows 17 copies world-wide. RARLY COME UP FOR SALE.

Englewood Cliffs, NJ : Prentice- Hall, Inc. , 1964. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. 5 3/4 x 8 1/4. Bob Bugg. 202 pages; bright and unmarked. The top edges of the page have a whisper of age toning. The dust jacket is price clipped, has a couple small chips on the top of the spine and bottom edge of the reverse and has a few small brownish spots. Now in a new Brodart covering. First Edition using the no other printing rule. This book is rated FINE in a dust jacket that is VERY GOOD.

Skippackville, Pennsylvania: J. M. Schunemann & Co., 1859. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 7 x 10. Frontispiece portrait of Schwenckfeld with protective paper. Embossed leather broken at both sides of spine but not loosening the binding. Gilt rope pattern and lettering on spine very bright with some loss. Full leather covering. Page edges with manufactured speckled pattern. Leather is rubbed, pages are tight and clean.

New York: Ensign, Bridgman & Fanning , 1857. Hardcover. Good. 4 3/4 x 7 1/4. New Edition, Revised and Enlarged". This book has quarter leather which is rubbed and missing a small amount of leather at the top of the spine.The paper boards are missing about 1/2 square inch of paper on the front and about 2 1/2 square inches of paper on the rear board, but no text is missing. The book begins with the title page so is missing a few(?) front free pages. Some foxing is present. Many great maps and other illustrations included.

White paper over cardboard boards have a paste-on title on the front. Some bumping to the corners and some soiling on the boards are present. THE SAMPLE ENVELOPED AND INVITATIONS WITH INSTRUCTIONS ARE PRESENT IN A POCKET ON THE INSIDE OF THE BACK BOARD! A RARE find indeed. GOOD++

Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co. , 1871. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 4 3/4 x 7 1/4. 372 pages + 8 of ads; neat owner's signature dated December 1878. Pages have age toned and one page has pencil marking, pages still crisp and sound. Brown cloth boards have some age wear, some loss of cloth on spine due to insects. Not bumped but gently rubbed corners.

Map attached (Copyright date on man 1895). paper boards dirty at the edges, spine loosening and missing about 1/4 square inch of paper, and has a few tears. Some staining to page leading edges and a couple dog eared pages. Original price 25c.

Copyright 1882 stated. Many full page illustrations; interesting ones at that. Age toned pages; mostly on and near the edges. Olive green decorated boards. The gilt on the spine is faded. The corners and spine ends are rubbed. VERY GOOD
