Nicholas Rowe is considered the first editor of Shakespeare and published the first 18th Century edition of Shakespeare in six volumes in 1709. "The Tragedy of Jane Shore" professedly an imitation of Shakespeare's style, was played at Drury Lane with Mrs. Oldfield in the title role in 1714. First Edition Limited to 550 copies, signed by Edward Weston, not numbered. Original binding with white spine (Edward Weston printed in gold, some minor abrasion to a few letters) and black boards. Binding has abrasions and light soiling with wear at corners and very slight fraying at top and bottom of spine. Hinges are solid. Interior, foxing at half title and page before rear free end paper. Pages are mostly very clean. Minor foxing at bottom of fore-edge. Book designed by Merle Armitage, printed by Lynton Kristler. Appreciation by Lincoln Steffens. Forward by Charles Sheeler. Original publisher's blue-green BD pebbled cloth with blind-stamped borders and center wreath. Spine lettered in gilt. Brown-coated end papers. An outstanding, unsophisticated copy. Front and rear cloth boards still have original sheen, spine not as much. Top and bottom of spine and all corners and edges are in excellent condition showing almost no wear. Interior joints are not cracked. Original book sellers label from Salem on free end paper. Previous owner's name with "Christmas 1863" noted. Very light offsetting from frontispiece through tissue guard to title page which is common for this book. Interior is as clean as the day it was printed. Book is tight, square and solid. A local copy of the book with a former owner's presentation on the front free end paper as noted from "Pamplico S.C.". Dark purple binding is not faded, lettering on spine is weak but stronger on front cover. Hinges are solid, very minor edge and corner wear. Interior of book is very clean, no foxing or marks, though light browning of free endpapers. Biography about the notorious Bigham family of Florence County, South Carolina. From the title page, "With illustrations from the album of a strange family who by their own misdeeds have become extinct". J.A. Zeigler was the editor of the local Morning News and Review and covered every facet of the murder trial of Edmund Bigham. Three volumes in original period 3/4 vellum bindings with marbled boards, title and volume number in gilt on small red leather spine back strip. Bound by A. Cox 18 St. John St., Cambridge. Marbled boards are lightly rubbed, shelf wear, vellum in nice shape with very minor soiling. Interior of the three volumes are clean with the very mildest of foxing at a few end papers. Volume three includes the index of the three volumes and is dated August 1885. Charterhouse boarding school. An attractive, rare three volume set.

Washington: Government Printing Office, 1920. 4th Edition . Hardcover. Good Plus/No Jacket. Oblong Folio (12" By 14"). pp. iv, 133, map, 59 plates of ships. Plates of ships fold out. One plate is damaged along the fold out edge with tears and edge pieces missing. Binding is a bit soiled with three small stains on the rear cover. Inner front hinge is cracked but holding strong. Internally the book is clean. A number of ships are marked as "sold" in pencil in the register of ships. Ex-German passenger vessels are listed. Ships are also listed according to size, type, change in names, and ships that have been lost. Fold out map of the world shows fueling stations. Fold out plates of ships are very detailed showing elevations, sections, and plans. Details such as ship specifications, location of rooms and number of crew and passengers are noted. The book is protected in mylar. A very scarce item.

Binding may be original, but in any case is very old. Front board is warped up about 2". 20th Century book plate on the front paste down over an area where an apparent earlier book plate has been cut out. Two pages loose but present. Interior is clean and unmarked. Trojan War. Very scarce in the edition of 1570.

Bound in full genuine leather with gilt decorations and raised bands on the spine. All edges are gilt. Includes silk moire end papers and a satin ribbon page marker. Also includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the Easton press. Buzz Aldrin was the second man to walk on the moon. No previous owner's names or marks, a beautiful, gift quality copy in new condition. A scarce collector's item.

Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1865. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good Plus Condition.. 12mo. 252 pages with 24 pp ads dated Dec, 1864. First edition which consisted of only 2,040 copies. Original purple P cloth (pebbled) as noted in Borst. Protected in mylar. Binding is much better than average with almost no wear to the tips and with very minor wear to the top and bottom of the spine, no real chips or tears. The purple color on the spine has faded to a light brown, but still providing enough contrast to read the gilt title across the room. BAL binding C, sequence not determined. Interior of the book is clean and tight. No previous owner's names. An above average, attractive copy. BAL 20115.

The very scarce first edition, first printing with G. W. Carleton ad at front of the book and "American News Company" in gilt at bottom of spine. Binding has minor edge and corner wear (but no chips) and a small spot on the rear cover, otherwise attractive in the original illustrated cloth boards. Internally very clean with solid hinges. Front free end paper and front paste down have a gift inscription dated Dec. 25th 1880 and a contemporary seller stamp and owner number. A very scarce Alger title.

Paris: Berggruen & Cie, 1953. Hardcover. Very Good/Slipcase. Oblong 8vo. The very scarce, youthful, Toulouse-Lautrec Marine Album in apparent facsimile. Two volumes housed in a slipcase with a paper label title. The first volume is a descriptive soft cover 12 page volume in French by Dortu noting that this Marine Album is limited to an edition of 550 copies of which this is number 453. The second, cloth covered, hard cover volume is an apparent facsimile of an early sketch book or album by Toulouse-Lautrec. Within are many reproductions of pencil and watercolor sketches. The front cover has an image of a dog and the rear the image of a sailor. Marbled end papers have a former owner's book plate on the front free end paper. The album is very clean and in near fine condition with a cracked front inner hinge and minor looseness of the first signature. All edges are gilt. Binding has edge and corner wear and light soiling. Front and rear interior hinges are cracked, but holding. A few pencil and pen notes, mainly on the end papers. Interior of book is mostly clean. From page 14, "What is the Elite Book? It is a Directory, containing a List of the Names and Addresses of extra well-to-do prominent householders principally, whose acquaintance and patronage viewed from a financial standpoint chiefly, it is very desirable to obtain. It circulates in the homes of those who CAN AFFORD to buy what they see advertised." This is a rare copy of the Elite Book.

Dust jacket is protected in new mylar, not priced clipped. Dust jacket has minor 1/8" chipping along the top of the spine and along the top of the rear panel. Light tanning on rear panel. Light wear, but over all a bright, attractive dust jacket. Binding and interior are near fine. An unusual copy being signed only and not inscribed to anyone. A very nice, attractive copy.

Original dark green cloth with facsimile signature in gilt on front cover. Beveled edges. Gilt title and author on spine. The first of Thoreau's four season books edited from his journal by H.G.O. Blake. Fairly scarce, only 1,018 copies printed. Binding is in very attractive condition with minor wear at head and bottom of spine, no chips. Inner hinges are not cracked. Previous owner's name on front paste down and second front free end paper with a date of June, 1887. 1/8" chip on front free end paper and a couple of very small pin holes on five of the early pages. Interior of book is clean, no marks. Solid, square, and tight, a collectible copy. BAL20123.

Binding has very slight edge wear, but overall is in near fine condition. Interior of book is very clean, no former owner's names or any marks.

Known as P'u of the North whereas the famous Chang Dai-chien was known as Chang of the South. Includes a biography of P'u Hsin-yu, alias the hermit of the western mountain with photos of him at work. Lauded as "The Last Great Scholar Painter" due to his accomplishments in the Three Perfections of Chinese art, poetry, calligraphy, and painting. A very scarce book.
