Quartos, bound in 3 quarter plain brown morocco with 5 raised bands and brown & gold marbeled paper, with similar paper on pastedown and first endpaper. Numbered 647 of 1000. Many illustrations in each volume, from a variety of artists including Phiz, Cruikshank, and others. Also includes 4 hand colored illustrations in sec. 1 of the Christmas Books set. Very good, with slight fading to spines and most volumes having scuffing to leather at spines. Pages at front and rear of each volume a bit browned. Sec. 1 of the Christmas books has a bit of dampstain at heel. An attractive collection of Dickens in sturdy, nicely illustrated, and easily read volumes.

Spines slightly faded but Gilt titles still bright and legible. Name of former owner, Prof. James Bellamy,written in ink at half title of each volume. 4 volumes: v. 1 (2nd edition) xlv, 443 p. 1874 ; v. 2 (2nd edition) xiv, 465 p. 1877 ; v. 3 (2nd edition) xxvi, 476 p, 1877; v. 4 (2nd edition) 479p. 1879. Index in v. 4. In French and Arabic. Does not include the later index. The uncommon first complete translation of this travel narrative by the now famous 14th century Berber traveller and scholar from North Africa. He left on his first hajj in 1325 and for 24 years followed the trade routes, visiting the Crimea, Anatolia, all over the Near East, Eastern Africa, India, and Asia including China and Sumatra in 25 years of voyaging. An important translation of a classic work of near eastern literature and folklore in an attractive unified binding. CF

Limited edition 81/500, signed by Rackham on limitation page. Scuffing to boards, with one scratch at front board. Corners bumped. In newer slipcase. Sixteen color plates on white paper, with captioned tissue guards. Forty-one drawings in black and white. An entertaining collection of fairy tales, wonderfully illustrated by reknowned artist Rackham in an uncommon edition. One of the more scarce Rackham books, due to smaller edition.

Fourth Edition, Greatly Enlarged and Corrected. 3/4 modern brown leather with gilt lettering and 5 raised bands to spine, with 4 ornaments. Dark cloth over boards.. Very Good. Imperial octavo (oversized). Boards are 117/8" by 8 1/2", paper is 11"x 7 1/2" with wide margins. Lovely marbeled endpapers, with 2 new blank preliminary leaves in both volumes. Original half-titles in both volumes. Plate and specimen leaf (p. 166) present in vol. 1. Some foxing to first and last few original pages, diminishing quickly, a bit more noticeable on v 2. Light fingermarks on upper corners of some pages. vol. 1 xiii, 562 p. vol. 2 579 p. w/ 1 p. corrigenda. Large paper copies limited to 250 (Dibdin's Reminscences, p. 213). Considered the best of the editions of this work, adding the best of both Hebrew bibles and editions of the early church fathers. An attractive set.

All illustrations after the text, instead of on various pages as the table of contents suggests. Vellum binding curves at edges. Missing silk ties. Bookplate removed at first pastedown. 6 of the most famous tales, illustrated by one of the great turn of the century book illustrators.

New York, NY: Oxford University Press, 1966. First edition. Hardcover in green cloth . Very Good/very good. First American edition, first printing. Thin octavo ( standard size). Dj has slight wear at corners and head and heel of spine and slightly faded at dj spine and along the foredge of the dj. Small closed tear to upper dj edge right after "Death". A few spots on rear cover. Book itself would be near fine except for the exlibris of the former owner on flyleaf. SIGNED and inscribed by the author on title page. He has drawn a line through his name, and written below : Seamus Heaney / 17th March 1971. Otherwise all correct, a quite attractive copy. First collection by this great Irish poet and 1995 Nobel Prize winner.

SIGNED and inscribed on flyleaf: "To Charles Nelson, jr. / Sinclair Lewis /Chicago / Jan. 13, 1938" A particularly pertinent work for today. Still missing as of 12/17/20

Gilt title with gilt boundary on spine, with ornaments at head and tail. Some wear to joints and corners, but still bound strongly. Bookplate of solicitor James Whitefoord Mackenzie (1794 -1884) on pastedown. "Privately printed" written in ink in a 19th century hand on flyleaf. (4) 23 p.(35 blank pages) with footnotes and illustrations. Illustrations include the heraldic device of James III on the title page, several smaller illustrations printed with the text, and two fold-out plates of 2 sides each illustrating the altar by C.A. Doyle, most likely Charles Altamont Doyle, an Edinburgh illustrator and father of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Includes a 3 page extract from the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, discussing some of the Queen’s paintings at Holyrood. Code "D 36" found at left bottom of page 239. Slight wear to edges and corners of boards. more so to price clipped dust jacket. Dj has Several closed tears at edges and scuffing to covers, but still striking and attractive. Edge of pricing still visible on dj corner. Slight stain on top edge of text block. Some scuffing to top edge of boards and top to rear corner of rear board. Perhaps the best known of Dick's novels, and one of his best. A classic of 20th c. science fiction.

Very light tanning to text plates but otherwise no foxing. viii [1], 164 p. w/ 9 hand colored plates in brights colors, an 2 additional plates uncolored of creatures in shells and the creatures without them. A lovely and well done introduction to the study of shelves by Brookes, more for the layman than the scientist.

SIGNED by Straub, Barron, and the illustrator on the illustrated limitation page. Black leather spine, embossed maroon leather front board. Rear board is illustrated cloth. Slight wear to edges and corners of boards. Some white scuffs to back illustrated board where the board has been rubbed. Text block has slight soiling at top of foredge. 718 p. 15 woodcut images from the artist including the title page A well received editon of Staub's novel of serial murder, friendship, and assumed identity. Very uncommon, unfortunately not in fine condition.

In a modern rebinding with a burgundy leather spine, gilt titling, and marbeled paper over boards. New enpapers. Includes the complete folded map of Baltimore backed with tissue paper at the time of rebinding Iimagine, with one tear in a crease at the center of the map above the "Power House". Stamped on title page, copyright page, and on map by a now defunct organization. Numerous check marks in pencil at margins, light foxing throughout, and dampstaining, primarily in the final third of the book at hinge. 166 p. w/ the afore-mentioned map, 4 illus., excursion diary, and directory. Uncommon and important early Baltimore and B&O railroad reference by late 18th c. French emigre Varle, with a sparce but useful map.

Rebacked in darker brown, with gilt titles, recornered in black, New endpapers, with old Westley's binding ticket replaced at rear pastedown along with a square of cloth from the original spine containing the title. Cloth on boards is original with light scuffing. Embossed stamp partially excised on title page and on p. 101. Handwritten 5 digit number on copyright page. Pages have very light foxing, a bit more so at front and rear. An important early travel memoir by an Englishman of the Mississippi and Ohio valleys, published 12 years after the author's death. After visiting Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and a very early Washington DC, Baily headed west, down the Ohio and MS Valleys, surviving 2 shipwrecks. During the Mississippi part of the trip he met Daniel Boone as Boone traveled by canoe, saw a very early paddlewheeler, and stopped at a US outpost commanded by Zebulon Pike. The volumes have slight marks in the guilding at the top or the foredge of the textblocks. Green leather binding with gilt designs on spine and boards, along with a gilt silhouette of Tazan on spines and front boards. Gilt titling on spines. A lovely and uncommon set of the first 6 Tarzan books in a uniform binding.

Palm Beach, FL: Davies Publihing Co. , 1938. Second edition. Oversized softcover. Very good. Small folio (13.5 in. tall) in brown softcover with brown textured endpapers. Some wear with smal tears to edges of covers. Small spots to covers. Interior is in very good shape. 130 unnumbered pages including 23 pages of ads at the rear. Entirely illustrated, no text other than title page, captions, and colophon. A completely different group of buildings from the first edition of 1932, with drawing of several proposed buildings and Maurice Fatio's own home, including an interior photo of the library. A survey of the mid-late 1930s Florida homes for the wealthy created by the well respected firm of Treanor & Fatio. Fatio, the more famous of the two, was Swiss-American architect, once voted the most popular architect in New York. Worldcat shows 1 library has this in its collection, the Canadian Centre of Architecture in Montreal. Uncommon

London: J. Hogarth, 1849. probable Third edition. Hardcover. Good. After the first edition of 1839 and the second of 1841/42, enlarged in size and content. Good folio volumes in quarter black leather and dark cloth with fading on the boards. Edges and corners have visible wear, with small tears in the leather at head and heel of spine, and some wear thru at corners . Bookplate of the Provincetown Art association in both volumes. Sticker with "B" on spine of v. 1. All plates still have original tissues, though some tissues show a bit of soiling. V. 1 has all 47 portrait plates, while Vol. 2 has 45 of 47 listed. However, after checking against 6 other copies of this set, all v. 2 copies checked were missing the same 2 plates - those of Viscountess Jocelyn and Countess Malmsbury. Each plate should have been accompanied by text. This too was missing from the 2 entries.
