Contemporary Full Calf. 205x264mm 64pp of French text including title page plus 10 leaves in Flemish text mainly on recto with verso mainly blank, 42 engraved plates, title page in black and red, contemporary full calf, dark blue tinted endpapers, gilt inner bands, decorative gilt bands to outer edges of boards, hinges split but boards firmly attached, spine, boards and corners etc rubbed and very worn, text very clean, small peice circa 40x40mm neatly cut from top right of blank prelim, overall very good.

1710. no binding. a large and imposing hand coloured map, plate size 61 x 98 cms consisting of two joined folio sheets, with the characteristic side tables listing cities, market towns and boroughs etc, a dominant cartouche in the top right and a dedication cartouche on the left. Hardcover. two volumes, 4to, each vol 33 cms (13 ins) x 24.5 cms (9.5 ins), xvi,498pp and xvi;132,[i]pp, title page printed red, sepia and black with armorial device, numerous plans, engravings, facsimile documents and illustrations throughout- all present in both volumes as called for, marbled endpapers, with the binders additional inner parchment endpapers, decorated heads and tails to chapter and decorated capitals, light spotting to the edges of a few plates, however, text overall very clean, binding: very fine matching full vellum by Sangorski and Sutcliffe with their stamps on upper margin of verso of ffeps, bevelled edges, inner gilt rules, gilt rules to boards, contrasting labels with title etc gilt, very firm, a beautiful edition. Condition: binding bright, sound and tight;, one folding plate restored along hinges, slight worming to one plate, a few plates dusty and slightly frayed along fore-edge, a few spots and light foxing in places plus a slightly dusty although overall text sound and clean, water stains to fore-edge of engraved half title (see pictures), a few small marginal tears on a few leaves not affecting printed area; overall very good. Mattheus Seutter, 1730. no binding. 19.25 x 22.5 (489 x 571mm), copper plate engraving on think paper and hand coloured, includes the Black Sea in the Northwest corner, Arabian Peninsular middle South and Caspian Sea etc. Large cartouche with title in lower right corner and attractive vignette of an estuary scene with pearl gatherers in lower left. A double page map which has been folded crosswise; some water discolouration and minor paper restoration around lower centrefold, one ink blot, otherwise clean and bright, overall good. Note: Adriaan Reland 1976 - 1718, noted Dutch scholar, philologist and cartographer. He was renowned for his work involving Islamic studies and linguistics, and made significant contributions to the geographic knowledge of Persia and the Holy Lands.Mattheus Seutter 1678 - 1757, established his own cartographic publishing business in Augsburg in the early 18th Century. Hardcover,. 8vo, xxvi478pp, all plates are present as called for: engraved portrait, engraved contemporary hand coloured title page plus 13 additional plates (of which 2 are hand coloured and one plate is folding; all except folding plate have tissue guards, some are frayed and age darkened on edges with minor marginal tears; the folding plate has been repaired); mid 20th century beige half morocco with textured cloth on the boards, raised bands, title gilt on contrasting label, binding very sound, new end papers and blank prelims, the original decorated spine strip has been preserved and is loosely inserted; ownership inscription on front free endpaper and another on first page of preface, some foxing to text but overall text pages are clean and presentable, a scarce item. A hand written receipt for bookbinding, dates May 1963 is loosely inserted.

Hardcover. 8vo, [iv],466,[ii]32pp (21x13cms), recent full panelled calf with title gilt on label, 3 copper plates of trigonometrical diagrams, one corner tear not affecting text (C4). The plates fold out for ease of reference, (creased along the folds and dust marked and creased on edges), has a new ffep. Overall the text is clean.Comments: published by one of the important British Classical publishers of the the 18th Century. Publication of this edition was overseen by Andrew, son of Robert Foulis who took over the firm after the death of his brother, the older Andrew Foulis. The press was already struggling financially during this period. Robert Simson (1687 - 1768), attended the University of Glasgow in 1702 at age 14, studied classics and oriental languages, later pursued interests in mathematics especially of the early Greeks. Antwerpie, 1649,. see description. 350x215mm with a 75mm-wide spine), 1072pp + numerous pages of indexes without folios, decorated initial capitals and a number of woodcuts as tailpieces, title page shaded and dusty and chipped and ragged at fore-edge, and second leaf to a lesser degree, the last leaf very dusty and chipped, the top cut edge subjected to damp, there are browned strips at the edges of the head margins not encroaching on text and an occasional spot in the fore-edge margin, all cut edges printed with a stipple effect, recently renewed endpapers, handsomely bound in full calf, both boards with panels within panels highlighted by a stained marble design and edged with plain and decorative punched rules, the spine with raised bands and title gilt on a gilt-edged contrasting leather label.

'Purchased by Gorer and exhibited at the galleries of Dreicer & Co', 32.5x26.5cm, cloth hardback, finely rebound with dark green cloth boards, original gilt title inlaid on upper board, endpapers replaced, full page colour plates throughout each with tissue guard, works ranging from 1960 AD to 1796AD, very faint staining to some page edges including plates but not on actual image. Publisher's original half calf with marbled boards, title gilt on spine, top and tail of spines rubbed or nicked, corners rubbed, hinges show signs of splitting, however, binding is firm.
