Various Places: Various A remarkable collection amassed by a single collector from the 1940s-1970s whose original inventory sheet (included) lists 39,744 labels from 49 countries spanning the globe. The countries with the highest counts include Belgium, 8000+, France, 5100+, Spain, 4400+, and Switzerland, 3500+. The collector sent letters requesting their unused labels to wineries, breweries and distilleries. Consequently, almost all are unused and most are stored in the original contemporary return envelopes, with a count and sometimes a country on the outside for each envelope. A good number of duplicates and variants noted. Total inventory numbers not verified, although a good representative sampling of envelope counts confirms the accuracy of the count. Various sizes of labels, with complete bottle sets noted. Almost all are in Fine condition, with some creases and light wear from storage. The entire collection completely fills three bankers boxes. Recently professionally rebound in full dark brown goat sweps imitation leather, spines with two new imitation labels similar to original, saving original flysheets and adding new parchment end papers while retaining the original bookplate in Volume One of John H. Peyton (John Howe Peyton (1778-1847)), a Virginia lawyer and planter who served in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly. Armorial bookplate of J. A. Knowles Renshaw front paste down. Dr. John Alfred Knowles Renshaw (1871-1926) was a noted British physician and book collector. Very Good, the leather rubbed at spine ends, corners, edges and raised bands, final two leafs and errata page repaired at bottom corner not affecting text, undecipherable writing at head of illustrated title page, lacking copperplate portrait of Chaucer surrounded by arms of his Progenie. Pacific Theater, World War II: Self-published, 1943. A superb World War II archive featuring a significant manuscript photograph album (oblong 17" x 12") containing 147 photographs on 46 pages (17 pages blank at rear), service records, citations, orders, medals, patches, bars, newspaper clippings, ID card, dog tags, and additional loose photographs and negatives, all belonging to Edwin Oscar Ahbe (1916-1995) . Ahbe was inducted on Dec. 1, 1943, reporting to Camp Peekskill, NY and serving as a Cameraman Motion Picture 043 and Combat Photographer in the 3374th Signal Photographic Service Company. After stops at Fort Sheridan and Camps Smith and Crowder, his first overseas photographs in the album begin in Ceylon. A small manuscript list shows he left NY early on Oct. 20, 1944 and records him being in Newfoundland, Azores, Cashblanca (sic), Tripoli, Cairo, Aboudan Iran, Karachi India, Kandy Ceylon, Burma, and China. Arthur Kiekebusch was a German production manager and director, best known for the 1920 silent film "The Woman in the Dolphin" starring Bela Lugosi. He also worked with Leni on her 1935 film "Triumph of the Will" as unit manager and head cameraman.
