Borzio Book published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1953. Advance reading copy of James Baldwin's first novel issued before publication of the hardcover first edition. Considered to be semi-autobiographical and tells the story of a depression-era Harlem teenager. The cover art used on the advance copies was rejected by the author and replaced for the first printing. Cover as shown with this listing is rubbed and scuffed. Published 1930 by J. M. Dent and E. P. Dutton. Edited by Georg Kinsky with the co-operation of Robert Haas, Hans Schnoor and other experts and with an introduction by Eric Blom. This copy was bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe of London in acid free leather and is flexibly hand sewn. Printed on gloss paper, head and tail bands and one silk ribbon marked which is worn and split. Leather cover as shown with this listing has five raised bands on the spine, gilt stamping on spine only. The cover is rubbed, scuffed and worn in places but the hand sewn binding is firm. Decorative endpapers with gilt-ruled board edges on front and back boards, gilt edges. Some spotting to text, see photos. The poem occurs on odd numbered pages (9–213) and the lithographs on even numbered pages (2–224). A complete set of Part V of the Natural History of New York: Agriculture. Five volumes bound in original dark brown cloth with gilt stamping on front boards and spine. The top and tail of the spines are frayed and two of the volumes have library labels on the spine (see photos) plus usual library labels and stamps on front and back endpapers, volume V has a library stamp throughout the text. The top half of the spine on Volume II is lifting away. Volumes II & III (text) are signed by Fred Hubbard who donated these books to the library. Fourteen volumes of Goethe's Works. The Weimar Edition, printed for subscribers only, by Northern Press, Weimar, New York. The Weimar Edition limited to One Hundred Specially Printed and Bound Copies of which these copies are No. 1. No date or publisher listed, assumed early 1900. Red leather covers as shown with this listing are rubbed and worn in places. Gilt stamping on front and back covers and spine, spines have five raised bands. Gilt tops, rough cut edges (edges are aged), head and tail bands. Cover leather overlaps onto inside of front and back boards with gilt decorations. Gilt initials stamped on ivory silk moire on front endpapers, back silk moire endpapers have gilt decoration. Book-blocks appear to be unmarked. Books have a four-color frontispiece with tissue guard also four-color illustration in the text block.
