This set of periodicals was originally bound for the library of one Monseigneur Maurice Baudoux (1902-1988), Officer of the Order of Canada and archbishop of Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. He was awarded the honour of the OC for his work in the western provinces on behalf of French Canada. The binder was the Montréal-based Reliure Deshaies & Associes. The present listing includes 11 bound volumes of periodicals, in orange/brown hardcover, which contain an estimated 16500 pages in total. French language. The sizes vary from 28 - 35 cm tall. Note that there are two gaps in this collection (most of 1962 and 1968). The volumes are, by and large, in Very Good condition. Most of the covers show mild to moderate shelfwear, including but not limited to scrapes and rubbing, and a few are predictably shaken (very thick volumes) but otherwise securely bound without any major defect. (Voir en bas pour la traduction en français.) RARE COLLECTION. L'Ami du clergé was a French-language weekly review published Langres from 1878 to 1969, with an interruption in 1940-1946 due to WWII. It was concerned with the education of members of the Catholic clergy and sought to promote Social Catholicism, without the use of polemics. A set of 33 volumes of bound periodicals, being volumes 30-40 and 52-72, including a duplicate of 52, and containing issues of L'Ami du clergé dated 1908-1923 and 1935-1962 (with a gap from 1940-46 due to the war). The set is also being sold with a few ephemera items found between the pages of various volumes.Ex-library, coming from the National Library in the Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, Canada, these volumes contain the usual markings (stamps, etc.) and have been bound differently during certain time spans. This set of 47 multilingual volumes of a religious periodical span from 1950 to 1967 and includes quite a few pieces of ephemera (flyers, cards, etc.). The main languages used are Latin and French, but there may be also English, German, and Dutch. Some volumes are sparsely illustrated in black and white. The content consists mainly of academic articles, reviews, and bibliographies, of subjects pertaining to theology and canonical law. The collection is ex-library, but with only penciled or penned numbers and the odd stamp. The condition of the books varies, some cracking with chips and tears and underlining, some appearing virtually unread. This set of French-language religious volumes (except No. 1, which is English) comes from the library of the Grey Nuns and of the Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface, Manitoba. As such, they contain the usual stamps, stickers, numbering, etc. Some volumes have protective jackets, but in general the exteriors are worn, including but not limited to scuffs, abrasions, and sunning, and a number of them have light dampstains and warping. In a few volumes, the binding it starting but, barring this, the books are internally Very Good+ to Near Fine, clean, crisp, and bright. Contain bibliographies and appendices. The artwork mentioned on the dust jacket flap is included as a separate plate in Near Fine condition, and there is also a pamphlet (NF) which apparently held a souvenir handkerchief at one point.

The top foredge is coloured blue, and he other edges are deckled. Apart from the aforementioned and the expected aging of paper, the book is in Near Fine condition, bright, clear, clean, and illustrated profusely with artwork, diagrams, and portraits. This book hails from the library of Dr. James Wellington Crane (1877-1959), bearing an illustrated book plate to that effect, and his signature on the title page. The book also sports a stamp from the Department of Public Welfare, Geriatric Centre in Toronto, where it was donated as part of the Dr. James W. Crane Collection, and a few library markings in pen and pencil.
