Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. ¶ The book's working title was "Sex Freedom", a theme that was retained after finalizing the title. The book remained influential for several decades. Its purpose was to determine what sexual morality would be best for general happiness and wellbeing. Russell himself had practiced a puritanical approach for years but recently had explored free love. Surprisingly, he argues against total freedom. As a male he holds that what is most to be desired is that they [women, in his case] should be difficult, but not impossible, of access. Thus sexual love is to remain in the sphere of romance, in which the process of courtship and indeed the involvement of the whole being are important. ¶ The true subject of the book is marriage, and the only public concern, he asserts, should be the existence of children. Bright boards have several small water stains; head and tail of spine bumped. Dust-jacket is chipped and worn with very top of spine and bottom inch missing. The flaps extol Wodehouse's honorary D.Litt. from Oxford and list 28 other titles by him.

The jacket has 1.5" tear on the front at the spine. the rear of the jacket lists 6 titles in Mildred A. Wirt's Penny Parker series. The book has a Xmas sticker and a stamped local seller's address on the front paste-down. The "This is my Book" ffep is filled in neatly, but the ffep is damaged for 2.5" up the page at the binding. The top and bottom edges have small stains. The rear fixed endpaper is lightly foxed.

New York: Sturgis & Walton, 1915. First Edition.. Cloth. Good+/No Jacket. Very scarce. 4 full-page photo plates. The binding cloth is a most unusual red speckled material. Binding can be seen through a half-inch gap near foot of spine. Edgeworn.

London: Methuen and Co., 1895. First Edition.. Cloth. Very Good-/No Jacket. Boards and spine show light wear. Spine is gilt-stamped. Pages [xxviii], [257], + 32 pp. of publisher's advertisements dated September 1895. This is #225 in Wade's bibliography of Yeats. Paper is brittle, with 2 consecutive pages having horizontal tears from the edge to the binding [nothing missing]; no foxing. Previous owners' names in pencil on ffep.

They are printed on both sides, as this is the "duplex" edition, copyright 1949. Size: about 18 x 44". Scale: 1 mile = 2". Attached index has 86 pages; brown paper wrappers, glued to map's front cover. The map itself is not torn but shows the effects of folding and refolding at the centre folds. The thick paper wrappers are green and edgeworn. The rear wrapper advertizes 4 other London products from Philip.

Newark, N.J., and New York: Charles E. Graham & Co,. Soft cover. Very Good-. No date; but illustrations seem to be from late 1800s. Title-page is printed landscape in red and blue and says: Painting and Drawing Book. Two pages have been very neatly painted in still brilliant colours. Three pages have light pencil drawings as per instructions (erasable, but seems a pity to do it). A half-inch hole has been bored into the bottom edge by an insect now long gone; its depredations don't show on the wrappers.
