London: Sherwood, Neely, & Jones, 1918. The first vampire story in English literature! First edition, first printing of this last of the five issues of this tale, and the third with the Sherwood, Neely, and Jones imprint. Much scarcer than the second issue. Originally thought to be a tale by Lord Byron. This rare copy is in original wrappers that are, however, soiled and torn. New York: Limited Edditions Club, 1950. This is a Very Good copy of the SIGNED edition of Frost's poems. It is also signed by the illustrator Thomas W. Nason, and the book's designer Bruce Rogers. It is housed in its original slip-case. It is complete in 2 volumes. The books are in Very Good condition - clean, bright and tight. Frankfurt, 1607. Timpler (1563-1624) was a German philosopher, physicist and theologian. Along with Jakob Degen he is considered the most important Protestant metaphysician, establishing the Protestant Reformed Neuscholastik. His METAPHYSICAE went through 9 editions: Steinfurt 1604, Lich 1604, Hanau 1606, Frankfurt a. M. 1607 [our copy], Marburg 1607, Hanau 1608, Frankfurt a. M. 1612, Hanau 1616. The book is in Good condition with some marginal and textual notes in very old ink and has been professionally re-backed, retaining as much of the original 17th century leather binding as possible. Two books bound in one: 2nd edition of Bailie's The Restoration of Works of Art to Italy, of which Worldcat lists onlly 4 copies & Hemans' The Martyr, of which Worldcat lists only 2 others. Bound in brown leather with decorative gilt spine, slightly chipped at bottom and missing 1/4 inch bit; fragile along connection of cover to spine, some wear around all extremities, but still a rather handsome, if fragile copy, with inside pages clean but foxed, and with gorgeous marbleized end papers. In pencil has been written on front title page this recommendation from Lord Byron, from Moore's Life of Byron: " I shall take Felicia Hemans' Restoration etc. with me ; it is a good poem--very". London & New York: John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1907. Copy with all illustrations by Beardsley, including the suppressed frontispiece (hermaphrodite genitalia!). Green binding with elaborate gilt design imprinted on cover and gilt on spine. Some rubbing and wear at all extremities,especially spine and top right hand front cover edge, but still very lovely and solid. Inside front and back endpapers are very shadowed, but the rest of the pages are very crisp, clean and bright. Introduction by Robert Ross. Rather sumptuous, as is fitting. . Hard Cover. Vienna, Austria: Universal Edition, 1927. Schenker, one of the most important music theorists of the 20th century, had a disagreement with Universal-Editions about publishing this music journal. Between 1921 and 1924 only 10 issues appeared with a very limited number of copies printed. They were also not distributed properly by the publisher. Finally, in 1927, Universal republished all 10 issues of the journal in 3 volumes and that is what is offered here. They are extremely rare with WorldCat listing only 11 copies world-wide. The pages have browned uniformly and there is some expected wear at the extremities, however, these are in remarkably tight and Good condition, and are virtually unavailable in their original state. Boston/Cambridge?: N/A THIS IS NOT A BOOK. This is an actual, REAL PHOTOGRAPH of a young Emily Hale. Hale had an amorous relationship with a young T.S. Eliot in the Boston/Cambridge area. The letters he wrote to her were recently opened for scholars at Princeton University. Although Eliot later denied any type of loving relationship, he penned over 1100 letters to her. We are offering this photograph taken of her in a theatrical costume. On the back of the photo someone has written her name and below the name in quotes is written, "Tubby." "Tubby and Gawks," a one act play by F. Kinsey Peile is about two women who meet in the after-life. The copyright, in New York and London, is 1913 by Samuel French, the drama publisher. It is possible that Emily played Tubby. The final clue, of course, would be to find the original playbill. It is significant to note that the couple met in that same year of 1913. Stoke-upon-Trent: Sprague & Co., 1889. After an engraved title page and xii pages, there are 94 pages of text interspersed with 185 full page plates showing the rubbings taken from the bells. The book has a cloth spine with paper over boards. A massive effort, this huge book rarely has held through the years. This copy is complete but the front cover is detached and some pages are loose. The covers show edge wear. An extremely rare book to be found in any condition, this was a wonderful contribution to the "County Bell Books" produced by those dedicated bell enthusiasts in 19th century England. This is basically a Very Good copy of the book. There is a former owner's name on the front free endpaper and there are some stains on all the endpapers, but the rest is clean, tight, complete. The covers show some edgewear but the spine title (gilt) is very clear. The "County Bell Series" of books were printed in very small editions. Therefore this is a very scarce title.. First Edition.
