Very scarce and sought after - one of the most exciting elephant hunting books ever written. Book has tired and worn boards - good condition - the frontispiece has come out of the book but could probably be easily re-attached - it is the inscription on the reverse of this that makes this book even more special - the author has written -To Sidney Dorington on his 25th birthday from his sincere friend a arkell-hardwick. june 19th 1903. p

As the signing event was still at the time before this series became acclaimed as the phenomenon it grew into , the author was still amicable to acceding to my request of the line - the author is now averse to adding anything at his signings beyond the date of the event. Fold-up map at rear, half of which is present. green dimpled cloth boards, scuffing and wear top & bottom of spine. Binding very good. no inscriptions, but previous owner has stuck a fairly modern newspaper article on the "Drummond Report" onto a front end paper. Very little foxing. I cannot find another similiar copy on the net.

Two volume set ,extremely rare- only 2 other sets listed on ABE for £2,200 and £1200 respectively - neither can match the condition of this set. Considering these are nearly 300 years old ,they are in fine condition- beautiful bindings - leather spines and corner ends- marbled boards- the contents show very little indications of their age- no tears,stains or ownership marks- very tight and crisp. This is a truely remarkable set and a fascinating insight into the works of one of the leading apothecarys of the age - quite stunning.
