Kyoto-Shoin Co., Ltd, January 1958. Hardcover. Very Good. Four volume set, large format (14.5 x 11.5), with various degrees of fading to dark orange cloth boards, binding very solid. Contents pristine, with dramatic color plates. Vol. 4 has 2 cigarette burns in cloth at front cover edge. Comes in original box, which is age toned and worn. Text in English & Japanese.

Korinsha Co. Ltd, Kyoto, Japan, January 1971. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Near fine 2 vol. set -- hand-tied, orange cloth boards are slightly bowed, but otherwise in mint condition, in fine dark blue slipcase with faux ivory fasteners, along with original cardboard storage box which has one loosened side. Table of contents and plate labels in English, other text in Japanese. An elegant work of art all in itself.

Near fine oversize 2 volume set, clothbound with hand tied binding, in cloth-covered foldover wrapper with a few very minor scuffs. 100 full color plates, text primarily in Japanese with captions also in English. Original cardboard box in good condition, with one edge loosened; box cover solid with slit on one edge.

Rare vintage 1882 printing with elaborate decorative imprint in bright gilt & black ink on cover and spine, 392 pp. Upper two inches of front hinge split, inside hinge cracked; cloth on back outside hinge partially split, hinge intact; board edges and spine ends rubbed; binding intact with stitching partly visible in spots; interior unmarked, lightly and evenly toned. Full of stunning lithograph line illustrations along with reproductions of notes and letters from poets and figures such as Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Penn State University Press, October 1990. Hardcover. Fair/Poor. Penn State, 1979. A solid copy, covers showing moderate wear, including a scraped rear edge. Jacket shows every kind of wear possible-- all edges showing tears and chips. Text itself bears a slightly musty odor, but is unmarked. For all that, this is an extremely scarce copy.

Encyclopaedia Britannica, January 1983. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Very Good to Near Fine condition. Clean, padded covers show almost no cover wear, the bindings are solid, text clean and appear unmarked. Very handsome shelf appearance.

Volumes 1&5 unmarked; Volumes 2,3&4 show infrequent highlighting. All jackets in good condition, with light general shelfwear and small tears especially at spine extremes. Overall solid, clean.

I; vintage hand lettering on spines & lower text block; previous owner inscription in vol. 1; text block intact with some cracking between signatures; pages lightly rippled, extensive foxing on end pages, text quite clean & bright with some darkened pages; occasional bent page corners, minor insect damage to some page margins; a remarkable copy.

George Barrie, January 1889. Hardcover. Good. Ours is the single volume edition, not part of the 10-volume set, nor is it part of a 2 vol set. Introduction describes paintings exhibited by France, Great Britain, the United States, and other (mostly European) countries at the 1889 fair, followed by 125 plates, some in color. (Two of the plates in this volume have detached, but are present in very good condition.) 3/4 leather binding in generally good condition, some usual chipping to edges and corners. Binding sturdy and solid. Oversize, approx. 15' x 18', xlii + 118pp., color and black and white plates, tissue-guards in very good condition except for first one, which shows many wrinkles, ornately decorated endpapers, hubbed spine.
