1959. Limited Edition . Soft cover. Good. 80 pages. Novelist Alison Lurie's first book, self-published in Munich in a limited edition of 300 copies, is a memoir of her friend V.R. "Bunny" Lang, the Poets' Theater, and other parts of cultural life in and around Cambridge, Massachusetts in the early post-War years. Paperback, 6-3/4" x 9-1/2", white card wraps quite clean under original paper French-fold dust jacket with cover drawing by Lurie's friend Ted Gorey. The jacket is slightly soiled and age-toned, lacking the outer glassine layer. The text block is detached from the wraps (but pages remain bound together) and we have left to a future owner any decision on repair. Faint foxing to edges and end papers. Inscribed by the author on half-title, "For Warner and Ann with love Alison" - to Lurie's friends Profs. Warner and Ann Berthoff. No other marks within. From the library of Ann E. Berthoff.

In original DJ, with foxing to interior and flaps, several ~1" tears and chips, including to folds and at top of spine where the first two letters of "John" are missing; unclipped (price $4.00), 16-line blurb on front flap, 18 lines under author's photo on rear flap. Preface by Murry in Vol. 1, Index of First Lines in Vol. 2. Blurb on a rear end paper states that the edition was limited to 765 copies, of which this is #331 of 350 allocated for sale in the USA (the others were for the UK). Large 8vo (7" x 8-3/4"), patterned paper over boards, brown cloth quarter with gilt lettering, top edge gilt, other edges rough-cut, boards stained and rubbed around edges, end papers age-tanned and with a few spots of foxing. Each volume has a bookplate on the front pastedown, stating that the books were awarded to (later professor) Warner Berthoff as a prize at the Hotchkiss School in May 1943. Pages unmarked.

First-ever title from The Mariscat Press, Glasgow. Edition limited to 200 copies. Stapled in pale butter-yellow card wraps a bit sunned along fold, light wear and a few spots to wraps, light vertical indentation extends about 2" from top about 1/4" from fold and parallel to it. Pages bright and unmarked.

"A publication of the William Dean Howells Curatorship Fund established at Harvard University in 1978 by John N. M. Howells '34." One of "One hundred and fifty copies printed by Michael and Winifred Bixler and bound by Werner Mueller after designs by Greer Allen." Author's note explains that this small edition "basically reproduces the original version" of the talk he gave in Emerson Lecture Hall, at Harvard, May 1, 1987 as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Howells' birth; a "somewhat amplified and altered" version subsequently appeared in The New Yorker. 5" x 8-1/4" in white wraps, encased in gray French-fold DJ with red and black lettering on the front. The first 41 pages have poems, and from p. 45 to the end are the supplementary essays and short essays or notes from 50-some of the author's foreign friends including Rene Char, John Dos Passos, T.S. Eliot, Marianne Moore, Ezra Pound, Jules Supervielle, Allen Tate. Trade paperback-sized (16 x 23 cm), white card wraps with white paper (red and black lettering) French-fold DJ and glassine outer jacket similarly folded. Edited and with a Preface to the American Edition by Henry Reed, Professor of English Literature in the University of Pennsylvania. Super 8vo (7" x 10-3/4"), leather bound with frayed corners and rubbed edges, gilt lettering in black block on spine, backstrip peeling from top (boards and backstrip in need of professional restoration); front and rear blank free end papers torn out (?), edges and interior margins brown with age, hinges cracked, some pages age-browned and foxing of various degrees across others. Name of former owner (Prof.) Ann Evans (Berthoff) and date 1941 written on front pastedown, notes in pencil by Prof. Warner Berthoff observed in "The Excursion" (related to Emerson) and a few other places. A well-used copy of a historically significant American edition.

Written during the Nuremberg Tribunal on Nazi war crimes, Rosenberg's memoirs were edited by Swiss journalists Lang and Schenck, whose notes are interspersed in the text. This is the first American edition of the translation by Eric Posselt and includes an authorization paragraph from the DoJ Office of Alien Property.
