Mayaguez, Puerto Rico: Facultad de Artes y Ciencias / Universidad de Puerto rico en Mayagüez, 1970. Unbound. VG. Julio Plaza -- Brazilian, born in Spain, 1938-2003) arrived in Sao Paolo in 1973 and worked in folded and altered paper. He was a beloved member of the art scene, especially the local neo-concrete art & poetry movement, and a professor. This rare collection of serigraphs was produced while Plaza taught in Mayaguez in the late 1960s. Examples of even individual prints are scarce on the market, and here we have the complete set, each one signed in pencil at rear (& numbered 13/100) by Plaza and additionally signed on the colophon which, along with four other text pages, was created by the noted graphic designer Claudio Ferlauto. Each thick heavy sheet is 25 cm square. This edition is number 13 of only 100 copies produced. All sheets in VG plus condition with minor age-toning & some foxing to edges not affecting images. Boston, MA: J.B.Millet Company, 1897. Very good +. An excellent set, Number 934 of 1000 copies. While a few volumes show some fraying to cloth covered boards (especially at rear) and four of the ten volumes have creases to the blank front endpapers, this is a remarkably preserved set, both inside and out. Volume I's paper label on the cover is a bit stained. All albumen photographs and flower plates are clear and crisp, as are the hundreds of black and whites. In addition there are two original matted paintings laid in.

Pulheim, Germany: Synagoge Stommeln, 1992. Near Fine. Boxed set containing four items, one of which, a matted black and white photograph of the Serra sculpture, The Drowned and The Saved, is SIGNED by the artist in pencil at rear. Box also contains glossy pictorial 32 page staple-bound catalogue with introduction by Gerhard Dornseifer, map of synagogues in Erftkreis before 1938, text and 9 monochrome reproductions of photographs, Serra's explanatory text, biography, exhibition history and publication details; also a printed text in German (with English translation of Serra's text). The catalogue was designed by Serra together with Clara Weyergraf-Serra. The third piece is a printed text by Germer in German and the fourth is a folded oblong glossy invitation to the vernissage. All elements in excellent condition save the debossed black slipcase which shows some corner, small scratches and rubbing but remains sturdy. Details & condition reports as follows: 1. Tokyo: Shinchsoha, 1991. First Edition. Paperback. Near Fine/Near Fine. Two Near Fine softcover volumes in Near Fine textured dj's, housed in a printed slipcase with obi. (Slipcase laminate peeling at base, obi has tiny closed tear.) Books are 32.5 x 25.75cm; "From Close-range" 142 pages while "Skyscapes" unpaginated. Images in Skyscapes are in color while all of those in From Close-range in glorious black and white. This set is increasingly uncommon especially in such excellent condition.

New York: Mary Boone Gallery, 1991. Hardcover. Near Fine. Near Fine in black silk-covered boards, Near Fine condition, very minor shelf-wear to covers barely evident. 72 pages with 36 four-color plates. One of 700 copies designed by the artist with Andrew McCall Associates. The second in the "Ísland: To Place" series.

Tokyo: Shueisha, 1975. Hardcover. Near Fine/VG+. An excellent copy in flower-design decorated cloth and identical endpapers, 320 pages, 18 x 26cm. Glorious color throughout, Renzaburo's text and Yokoo's illustration. Pages bright, fresh, unmarred; Dust-jacket VG + with only minor hints of wear at creases. Obi extant, also VG+ (not shown in photos.) Original price/ID sticker on endpaper upper corner ffep. Remarkably well-preserved in thick clear acetate. (Scarce on this continent.

New York: Christie's, 2018. Softcover. Fine. Six small quarto volumes in glossy wrappers, all Near Fine condition in a sturdy printed slipcase (which has several dings and marks to its off-white exterior.) (Interior is decorated like wallpaper.) Approximately 24 lbs. & 1800 total pages, the catalogue, like the auction itself, is divided into six parts, thus: I :19th and 20th Century Art, Evening Sale, 8 May; II : English and European Furniture, Ceramics and Decorations, Part I, 9 May; III : Art of the Americas, Evening Sale, 9 May; IV : Fine Art, Day Sale,10 May; V : English and European Furniture, Ceramics and Decorations, Part II, 10 May; VI : Travel and Americana,10 May. A piece of furniture in itself, a must for the Rockefeller obsessive.

Hermosa Beach: Superflux Publications, 1990. VG minus. Staple-bound unpaginated 8vo artist's book, 21.6 x 14 cm; number 10 of 50 copies (with "10/50" in ink front cover), while most Superflux & other runs of Pettibon zines came in much larger editions. Very Good over all with the following qualifications: Covers tanned with coffee or wine splotches on the rear bleeding through to last two (blank pages); upper corner crease to most pages, fairly faint, and bottom edge a little soft. Interior pages while a bit age-toned are without other flaws. Scarce (one copy in MoMA collection.) Additional photos upon request. Peter Schjeldahl's copy (though not stated as such.).

Paris: Maynial, 1926. Unbound. VG. Seven only (of twelve) gorgeous Art Deco plates enclosed in folder with George Barbier's cover design, as well as the Baronne de Brimont's 5 page text (Le Songe d'Eve) in French, and back matter. The extant plates are La Terre, L'Air, L'Automne, L'Hiver, Le Matin & Le Modéle Intéressant and those missing are Le Feu, L'Eté, Le Soir and Les Cerises. While all the plates themselves are without defect & eminently frameable, bright an clear, the page edges are significantly age-toned & a few are creased at edges, ot affecting images. Folder bears previous owners red-ink signature and cover is heavily sunned all around border, partially covering the artist's name. The folder is also worn at the edges. Gilt lettering to spine and gilt rules to spine edge, gilt lightning strike over black tree illustration on upper board. Top edge gilt, tipped in colour frontis and 26 plates, many of which are munted and in colour, other b&w illustrations, references, notes. Printed by Stamperia Valdonega of Italy. Edition limited to 300 copies of which 274 were numbered and 26 were 'hors commerce" and lettered A-Z; this copy is numbered 96. The first deluxe edition of this serious study by the author of 'Soma' - with essays by others looking at aspects of the use of entheogens (psychoactive substances used in a spiritual context) in Asian religions and the Western classical tradition. New York: Limited Editions Club, 1984. First Ediiton. Hardcover. Near Fine. Near Fine square hardcover in black cowhide leather designed and with twenty-two silkscreens by Sol Lewitt. Covers show a few signs of handling. Colophon states (in embossed round seal text) that "This is one of 50 presentation copies out of series". It is unnumbered, therefore, and not one of the 1500 numbered copies. Scarce thus. SIGNED "Lewitt" in pencil on colophon page. Printed at the Anthoensen Press. Text in English. The slipcase is extant and sturdy and functional but not pretty, as it has 5 or 6 areas where the paper laminate has peeled away from the box, and edges are worn. Further images upon request.

NP: Self-published, 2010. First. Hardcover. VG+/VG-, some crimping to laminate.. Privately printed near square (17.5 x 18.25 cm) hardcover with printed DJ showing some crimps. 2010. Signed, dated and with an inscription but no recipient, by the author. Edition quantity unknown though pencilled note reads 6/10. Zawadski, a Floridian, collected Japanese prints and photographs and left some of them to the Harn Museum at the University of Florida, and a few other places although these don't shput out their association with him, for obvious reasons. This document consists of 368 images over its 240 pages, with section headings such as Yakuza Tattoos and Bathers, Sexual Fantasies in Japanese Hot Springs and Japanese Communal Bathing and the Indoor Sento. Very Scarce.

NY: Abbeville, 1980. First Edition. Very Good in cloth with large mounted color image. No DJ and no glassine, 321 pages, unidentifiable age-toning to top edge. This copy is warmly inscribed to Wesselmann's friend and colleague, Richard Bellamy, who showed the artist at the Green Gallery, thus: "Dear Dick: In honor of fond memories of the old days. Tom Wesselmann. December, 1981." Further images upon request.

Tokyo: Tokoen, 1918. VG/None. Hiroshige's Tokaido. A page will show the Ukiyo-e color print and its companion page will show a photograph circa 1910 of the scene most likely used as Hiroshige's source. Stab bound with ribbon-ties, in oblong blue boards with green, white and gilt lettering in Japanese on cover. 30 x 22.5cm. Japanese & English text, decorated endpapers, tissue guards. As an appendix the Tokaidochu-Hizakurige by Jippensha Ikku - a classic comedic story written in 1802 about two guys traveling the Tokaido road. Excellent condition with some rubbing around hinges and a thumb-sized abrasion on the front cover. Apparently reinforced with blue tape - see photo detail. Slight foxing throughout. Binding is strong and interior is immaculate. Interior is immaculate.

New York: Grove Press, 1959. First. Hardcover. VG/VG. A Very Good copy of First printing of the First Edition, tight and clean in a VG first state DJ. Black cloth boards have just a little rubbing and, at rear, some spotting on the top third. Binding is ever so slightly cocked. DJ shows two minute (less than 1/4 inch) closed tears at crown, rubbing to fore-edge & one additional chip, same size, at the flap's crease toward rear. At the foot we see the yellow of the jacket fading to white. Finally, previous owners vigorous erasure of writing leaves remnant of a blue pencil or pen where the book would have been priced on the ffep. High res photo actually EXAGGERATES or MAGNIFIES the jacket flaws. Additional images upon request.

Valencia: IVAM Centro Julio Gonzalez, 2004. Hardcover. VG+/VG+. Oversized (14 x 12") oblong black cloth with dust-jacket, 334 pages with English and Spanish text., profusely illustrated. Book is in excellent shape with only the mildest of wear to boards. Dust-jacket is in Very Good condition with some rubbing to edges, nothing serious, while a mysterious slightly textured foeign material appears on the rear cover which the artist, pictured seated next to his work, seems almost to be eyeing, along with another stain which goes through to the verso of dj -- please see 2nd image. In all a tight and bright copy of this important document. From the library of the late Pert Schjeldahl.

Brooklyn: Pierogi, 2003. Very Good. Very Good in oblong wrappers, 40 pages, color images throughout. Rear cover has sign of a crease; some marks on the cover though these may be integral to the paper used for the covers; interior is flawless. 18 plates, texts by the artist & Tan Lin and a conversation between Lin and Hobbs; bibliography of Lombardi's library compiled by by Hobbs and biography of the artist at rear.

New York City: Mother Press, 1967. First. Softcover. Very Good. Octavo thick glossy wraps, staple-bound. One of a thousand copies printed of Giorno's first book with cover by Robert Rauschenberg & frontispiece by Les Levine, this book belonged to the late great Jill Johnston (1929-2010), critic, radical lesbian feminist and champion of the avant-garde, and bears her distinctive stamp in blue ink which reads "Write first. then live." J.J. In a Brooklyn Rail interview Giorno discusses his connection to Johnston, thus: "We were very good friends in the very early years. I'm not sure when I met Jill, but maybe '61. I knew her in the context of this tiny downtown art scene. We were both outsiders and we felt safe together. Jill was friends with Bob Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns too. In those early years we danced together at parties. I knew nothing about dancing but we would modern dance together, incredibly drunk and stoned.
