NY: Knopf, 1961. First Edition . Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. First printing of the author's first book, which won the National Book Award in 1961. Very good to near fine in a very good dust jacket. Tiny, insignificant mark to the bottom edge of the page block (not a remainder mark); very slight bump to top front corner. The jacket has light edgewear and a small internal mend at the top of the spine. $3.95 price is present on front flap. Signed by the author on the title page. With a short, two page ALS dated July 10, 1961, tipped to the front pastedown: Percy declines to contribute to the magazine SHOW (which is in its early days). The recipient of the letter was the original owner of this copy, which bears both his signature and his bookplate. Finally, affixed to the front endpaper opposite the letter is a very short clipping: "This is one of the poems of Walker Percy, student at Greenville High School, which won first honors in the State High School Press Association contests."… Leer más

Descripción:
NY: D. Appleton & Company, 1895. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. First edition, first issue - very good lacking a dust jacket. Type is perfect on page 225, four pages of ads beginning with three Gilbert Parker titles and ending with a Christian Reid title. Brown buckram cloth with lettering and designs in red, black and gilt. Yellowish green topstain is fairly bright. Owner's neat signature on front endpaper, water lines visible on front endpapers and bottom edge of front board. There is a faint dampstain at the very foredge of the first 110 pages, getting progressively smaller toward the middle of the book. The spine of the book is a little darkened in places, but perfectly legible. The book is tight and square, with very little wear to the buckram cloth, just at the foot of the spine. The slight dampstain makes this copy very good; otherwise a beautifully preserved copy.

Small spots of wear to the black paper covered boards along the bottom edge of the boards. The spine of the book has a couple of short, light creases. NY: Harper & Row; (1963). First Edition . Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. First printing of the author's second book, fine in a very good+ dust jacket. The jacket has a touch of soiling on the spine, and small area along the top edge of the jacket that looks like it had an old style protector because there is a faint line running just below the top edge across the entire jacket, including the flaps. There is also a small piece of tape on the interior of the jacket near the foot of the spine that does not appear to serve any function. The jacket is not price clipped, and has a $4.95 price sticker at the top corner of the front flap. Basis for the 1974 Sidney Lumet film Lovin' Molly. The book itself is tight, clean and square - a very nice copy. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper.

NY: Knopf, 1960. First Edition . Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. First printing of the author's second novel and fourth book, near fine in a near fine dust jacket. The book has some minor soiling at the ends of the spine and edges of the boards. The jacket spine is slightly sunned, and there is a small (1/2") closed tear at the top of the rear panel. The edges and ends of the jacket spine are slightly rubbed. Inscribed by the author: "For Jim, best wishes, John Updike" on the front endpaper. Even with the flaws described, this is an extremely desireable copy of the author's most coveted book. Tight and square, with no names or other markings internally, in a bright first issue dust jacket with the $4.00 price on the front flap.

Descripción:
NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1952. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. First printing of this Pulitzer Prize winner in 1953, Near fine in a very good+ dust jacket. Scribners "A" and colophon on copyright page; light blue cloth with silver lettering on spine and author's signature embossed at lower right of front board. First issue dust jacket, with $3.00 price at top of front flap and brown ink on the two flaps. Neat owner's signature on front board; the rear flap of the jacket and the two blank rear endpapers are toned, probably as a result of something being laid in there. Very slight toning to the page block at the outer edge. The jacket has a few tiny chips at corners and edges, and a one inch closed tear at the top of the rear flap fold. The colors on the front panel of the jacket are vibrant and bright, especially the deep blue of the ocean. A nicer than usual copy of this classic of American literature.

Descripción:
Noel, MO: W. T. Wood, 1909. First Edition . Full-Leather. Souvenir Edition," very good in the original red leather binding with gilt lettering on the front cover: "1909 Wood's Souvenir Directory Tulsa, Okla." The book is about 6 1/4" high and 3 1/4" wide. A few interior pages have small tape repairs, and one of the unnumbered pages near the front is detached but present. 351 pages with no advertising. About 250 pages of residential listings, giving name, occuption and home address. Interspersed throughout are full page biographies (with photos) of prominent business men and civic leaders, as well as some photos of residences and businesses (also full page). The last approximately 100 pages is a business directory, by type of business, then a "Roster of Secret Societies." At the front of the book is a street directory, and a 22 page history of Tulsa which also extols its (then) present day amenities, written by Fred S. Clinton, M.D. A very early and very scarce… Leer más

London: John Camden Hotten; (no date). First Edition . Hardcover. First edition (preceding the US edition) of the author's first book, very good lacking a dust jacket. Dark maroon cloth, with gilt demon on front board and near bottom of spine. There is some loss of the cloth at the top of the spine (about 1/4"), and slight fraying at the bottom of the spine. The front endpaper is detached but laid in. The rear hinge is a little loose. With the bookplate (on front pastedown) and signature (on half title page) of Vincent Starrett, Bierce's biographer and bibliographer. NY: E. P. Dutton, 1961. First Edition . Hardcover. An ex-library copy, which has typical library markings and has water damage along the lower half of the book. NY: Viking Press, 1961. First Edition . Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. The book has minor soiling to the white cloth at spine ends, and a faint erasure on front endpaper. The jacket has a little rubbing on the front flap fold, tiny chips at spine ends, and a little creasing and wear mainly at spine ends. An important association copy of this novel, inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "For Marshall -/Who liked a good deal/of this, and understood/the rest. With many thanks/Peter/Jan. 3, 1961". Marshall Best was an editor at Viking in the late 1950's through the 1970's, ultimately becoming Viking's chairman. He undoubtedly worked with Matthiessen on this novel, as well as earlier novels Matthiessen did for Viking. The date of the inscription is very early for this book, as the official publication date was January 26, 1961

Author Published; (1938). First Edition . Hardcover. Very good in blue cloth covered boards with black lettering on the spine and front board. Cloth is worn at tips and spine ends, and the blue color is faded, mainly on the front board and spine. The book has seven photographs, and in this copy all have been removed and attached into a small booklet with a piece of scotch tape. There are also two copies of a photograph of Bob Wills, same size as the photos from the book, which may have been meant to be a frontispiece (the page facing the title page reads: "Portrait of Bob Wills May Either Be Framed Or Pasted Here"). The front hinge is cracked, and the half title page is still attached but loosely so. One the front pastedown in Bob Wills' hand is written "From/Bob Wills/To" then in a different hand is written "Dorothy White".
