San Francisco: A. L. Bancroft & Company and the History Company, 1883. The Works of Hubert Howe Bancroft, 1883-1890. Complete in thirty-nine volumes. This set has recently been professionally rebound in full brown cloth with gilt titling to spines, red ribbon markers bound in, new white endpapers. Bindings are fresh, tight and fine. Contents of all volumes are very good with mildly tanned pages showing light use, tears to several pages, overall remarkably clean and bright. A landmark work and a cornerstone of Western Americana. Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher 1895-1914, 1895. 1st printings. 21 volumes including the index. Unmarked books with printer's device red-stamped on rear flyleaf, blue paper over boards with ivory spines, 4 raised spine bands, titled in red and black. Books are square, tight and clean, with slight toning along edges and to spines. Variously paginated. Jackets are lightly rubbed, with toned spines, some with very small chips, each now in a new mylar cover. These original Mosher publications were issued annually, one per year, by subscription only.
