Bookplates of Robert Alfred Cunliffe. Each volume contains an index. There is a curious lack of information on the title pages, which name neither the publisher nor the place of publication, which suggests that it was privately published by his wife Frances Joanna Bunbury. The date (1894) is taken from the BL catalogue entry for vol. 2; neither vol. 1 nor vol. 3 is dated. An abbreviated version of this book was published in

Some of the bindings (especially vol. 1) are in poor condition, requiring conservation. Bookplates of Sir Humphrey Edmund de Trafford Bart. AN extraordinary compilation of European fine art; engravings tipped into guard pages with recesses on facing pages .As this is a very heavy set, additional carriage costs will be required depending on destination.

T Cadell & W. Davies, London, 1809. 1st edition. Rebound in brown cloth. Good/No Jacket. Ex-library copy with perforated stamp (Brooklyn Public Library) and catalogue number on t.p. of each volume. A security-conscious librarian has placed an oval ink stamp over the margin of each aquatint plate (covering a corner of each). Many of the subjects are of Indian mammals, Daniell having travelled extensively in that country.

Cambridge University Press, 1996-2018. 1st edition. Pictorial hard covers. V.g./No Jacket. An exceptional set, being inscribed to Philip Oswald by the authors (in vol. 5) and with a loose slip of his corrections to that volume. Vols. 3 and 4 are similarly inscribed, but without corrections. Vol. 2 contains CUP's delivery note with his review copy, published in 2014. The first author died in 2016, the flora being completed with the help of a team that included Philip Oswald (who owned this complete set). Vol. 1 has the loosely inserted invitation to a celebration of the completion of the project, held on 28 June 2018. The Flora is a tour de force, and includes full treatment of apomictic genera such as Hieracium.

Paris; Imprimerie de Didot Jeune, L'an VII" (1799). 4th edition. Half leather binding, raised bands, gilt titles on spines. Good/No Jackets. This six-volume set (lacking vol. 5) was originally bound for the 3rd Baron de Teissier in 1890. According to an inscription (in English) on the front pastedown of the first volume it was originally given to James, the 1st Baron de Teissier (of Woodcote Park, Surrey) by six priests supported in exile by his father Lewis [sic] Teissier Esq.during the French Revolution. The first Baron de Teissier was born there in 1794 during the "Terror". A fictional young traveller in Greece presents an account of the period immediately prior to the reign of Alexander the Great, which though fanciful is founded on historical fact.

London: the editor (Theo A. Stevens), 1934-1942, 1947-1951. A monthly journal bound in half-year volumes (except for the latter years). Full leather bindings tp 1942); paper covers (the rest). V.g./No Jacket. Owner's labels. A very influential periodical which attracted contributions from a wide range of horticultural experts. The final issue (dated November 1947) was the last but one to be published; it contains a poignant editorial from the editor, T.A. Stephens, explaining why rising costs of production have made it impossible to continue publication.

Edinburgh University Press, 1965-1986. Hard covers, dust jackets. V.g./No Jacket. An ex-library set but very little used and with only light interventions (shelfmarks and discreet ink stamps). The wrappers have a protective plastic coating leaving traces of sellotape adhesive on the pastedowns. All the jackets' spines are somewhat faded, the figure 7 on vol. 7 being particularly noticeably affected. A classic taxonomic work, only now being slowly superseded by Adil Güner's Resimli Türkiye Florasi, which is fully illustrated but written in Turkish.

London: printed for B. White, Fleet Street, 1782. 1st edition. Full leather binding. V.g./No Jacket. Bound with "The journey to Snowdon", by the same author. Printed by Henry Hughes, London, 1781. The main work is an amalgam of reports of several journeys made by Pennant. Former owner's bookplate (Boult, with motto "Siquis hunc librum laedit iacula timeat", designed by M. Snape). A very well preserved copy, spine rebacked, corners worn, with folded plates (by Moses Griffith) intact.
