Spine is almost completely detached from text block, but can be repaired. Black end papers, no inscriptions or ownership plates. Pages lightly age-toned with some foxing but overall smooth. Plates are in good condition.. Burgundy cloth with gilt decorations, front and spine on a black background. 459 pages 12 plates. Each plate accompanied by leaf with descriptive letterpress in red. Designs from spine and side of original binding mounted on leaves at end of volume. Nice reference or reader's copy, especially if bind repaired.

"The first edition of this work has been for some time exhausted, and copies of it are only to be had occasionally from dealers in rare books, at fancy prices." Illustrated by the author with 12 genuine etchings, mostly after the works of great artists; intended to show how the process works, rather than to be mere ornaments. Rebound in half deep green morocco over decorated boards with matching endsheets, gilt top edge. The binding is unsigned, but it is quality work, likely by a Chicago binder in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Unique thus. Light wear, one corner bumped, spine faded, front board tanned. Text clean; [xxxi], blank, 459 pages; technical appendix.. Later Edition. Half Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 6½" by 9½".

1916 cloth-bound hardcover book has moderate shelfwear and page tanning, and no writing in it; dust jacket is missing if it had one.
