Clean text; 119 pages with two lectures ("Of Kings' Treasuries," and "Of Queens' Gardens"). There is another title (" An Inquiry into Some of the Conditions at Present Affecting 'The Study of Architecture' in our Schools') bound with the lectures. Interestingly, its publication date is 1866, while this copy has a gift inscription dated "Christmas 1865" on the FFEP. Quercus ponders the sequence. Brown cloth binding (possibly publisher's purple originally). Embossed decoration on the front cover of a painter's palette; gilt lettering on spine, rather faded. Very nicely preserved copy, with supple leather, minimal wear. Lightly rubbed at corners and spine extremities, slightly rubbed surfaces. Firm binding, clean interior, light foxing evident only on blanks opposite marbled endpapers..

Two early owner's names in ink on front fly leaf. Front board is detached with small piece of tape on left edge, gilt spine is rubbed and faded, small one-inch tear to one leaf (pp. 81-82), else very good. A handsome tree calf binding, with clearly visible mottled branches on both covers.
