Based on Mark Twain's 1884 classic, the sixth adaptation for the screen and the first to be filmed in color, shot in CinemaScope and Technicolor. With the stamp of a Canadian film distributor on the verso, and a stamp noting production No. 79-22 on the bottom right corner of the recto. Based on Sylvia Plath's influential semi-autobiographical 1963 novel, about a young woman who suffers a series of mental breakdowns at her family's home in New England in the 1950s. Set in New York and New England, shot on location in New Jersey and New York. 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.

Based on Charles Dickens' 1859 novel, which follows a love triangle between a French aristocrat, an alcoholic English lawyer, and a young woman named Lucie in the years before and during the French Revolution. Set in France and England. 10 x 8 inches. Most Near Fine.

From the archive of the PIX Agency, a photo house that acted as an intermediary between émigré photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969. Based on Ernest Hemingway's 1940 novel, which follows the experiences of an American fighting against the fascists in the Spanish Civil War, and his relationship with a young guerrilla fighter. Nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning one for Best Supporting Actress for Katina Paxinou. Set and shot on location in Spain. 9.5 x 7.5 inches. Moscow: Mosfilm, 1964. Two vintage photographs from the four-fim series, released between 1966 and 1967, showing director Sergey Bondarchuk on a large outdoor battle set. With Italian mimeo snipes, and stamps of a magazine archive dated August 19, 1964 on the verso. An epic production, based on Leo Tolstoy's 1869 novel, at the time the most expensive film ever made in the Soviet Union. Filmed over six years, with the photographs offered here from the midpoint of the production, and released in four parts in 1966 and 1967, running a totla of just over seven hours. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Photographs 9 x 5.25 and 9.25 x 6.5 inches. Near Fine.

Based on the 1894 collection of stories by Rudyard Kipling. A Technicolor live-action version of the classic Kipling stories, made by the Hungarian-born filmmaking team of director Zoltan Korda, producer Alexander Korda, and art director Vincent Korda. The production brilliantly utilized live exotic animals, and featured Indian actor Sabu as Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves who can communicate with the animals of the jungle. Nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Cinematography. Shot on location in Sherwood Forest, California. 9 x 12 inches. Fine. Criterion Collection, Eclipse Series 30.

Based on Ian Fleming's 1956 novel. The seventh James Bond adventure and the second of four directed by Guy Hamilton, following 007 as he pursues a diamond smuggling ring in Las Vegas. 10 x 8 inches. Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1967. Collection of five vintage reference photographs, all quite striking, of Patty Duke in various states of celebrity, intoxication, or depravity in the 1967 film. Based on Jacqueline Susann's 1966 best selling novel. Shown in one of the photographs is author Susann, who appears in a cameo as a reporter who interviews Duke. A big budget film that became a cult classic. The story, though presented in 1967, was based on Susann's experience with the 1940s Broadway theater and Hollywood scene, with an emphasis on the abuse of the business, sex and pills. 8 x 10 inches. A few ink annotations on the verso of each photograph, else easily Near Fine.

Beverly Hills, CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM], 1929. Two vintage studio still photographs from the 1929 part-talkie film. Mimeo snipes on the versos. Loosely based on the 1874 novel by Jules Verne. The benevolent scientist-leader of a volcanic island is attacked by an evil baron, leading to a submarine chase in which they discover a race of water-bound humanoids. Shooting for the film began in 1926, but the advent of talkies and bad weather would slow production, ultimately delaying release until 1929. Lauded as an impressive cinematic feat, the astronomical price tag of the production-over $1 million in 1929-all but guaranteed the film would be a financial disaster at the box office, turning studios off to the idea of science fiction for many years. All color copies were believed lost, but in 2013 one existing color print was discovered in Prague and has since been restored through a collaboration between US film experts and the Czech National Film Archive. 8 x 10 inches. N.p.: Darryl F. Zanuck Productions, 1961. Collection of 28 vintage studio still photographs from the 1961 film. Based on William Faulkner's novels, "Sanctuary" and "Requiem for a Nun." A harsh film with frank dialogue and thematic content throughout regarding rape, female sensuality, and sexual brutality. The final version of the film suffered from censorship, as well as an attempt to make something "literary" and "respectable" from a novel where disrespect and ill repute were at the center of a grim story. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine to Fine condition.
