Good condition. Scarce copy of this account of the first congress of the Club Alpin Francais (CAF), or French Alpine Club. The club was created in 1874 to promote mountain sports, and has since grown into a federation of clubs with 241 associated organizations comprising tens of thousands of people. The club, known today as Fédération Française des clubs alpins et de montagne (FFCAM), offers courses and training programs in mountaineering and other alpine sports, and manages more than 140 mountain huts, mostly in the Alps and Pyrenees mountain ranges. Forty-first Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution 1919-24, Jesse Walter Fewkes, United States Government Printing Office, Washington D.C., 1928, 11.5 x 8.5 inches, 626 pp. Dark olive green boards with gilt stamped illustration of an Indigenous person in a feathered headdress to front, gilt stamped lettering to spine, and blind stamped border to front and back boards. Paper pocket affixed to back pastedown; inside pocket is a color printed map entitled "Distribution of Salish Dialects, and of Languages Spoken in the Adjoining Territory, Before 1800, Based On Information Collected By James A. Teit, Franz Boas, and Leo J. Frachtenberg. By Franz Boas." 1906. San Francisco Earthquake Photos--16 Glass Plate Negatives Attributed to George Fiske Glass Negatives measure 4 x 5 inches. Generally, in very good condition. Several have light flaking to emulsion at edges. Many exhibit a light silvering halo which gives scans a bluish tint. Composition, toning and exposure generally strong. No information written on negative; all have newer small white labels with four-digit numbers. All negatives have been scanned and digitally converted into positives. Buyer will receive glass plate negatives. Very Good Condition. Interesting collection of photographs documenting damage from the San Francisco earthquake. Attributed to noted San Francisco and Yosemite photographer by auction house via their consignor. Negative box includes holograph note in pencil, "G Fisk" (sic). George Fiske (1835-1918) is best associated with his landscape photography of Yosemite National Park. Previous owner wrote two names in pencil adjacent to signature. Invitation for the First Annual Political Action Fund Dinner with special guest Gloria Steinem, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Tuesday November 10, 1981. From Wikipedia: "Campaign for Economic Democracy (CED) was a California-based political action committee founded by activist and politician Tom Hayden along with his wife, actress and activist Jane Fonda. The CED was formed to promote New Left issues such as rent control, reduction of water pollution, investing in solar power and fighting against nuclear power, advocating labor rights, women's rights and various anti-war initiatives." [Ford's Theater] Autograph Letter Signed by John T. Ford, Proprietor of Ford's Opera House, Washington D.C. plus Two Tickets to Fords [sic] Opera House Letter measures 4.75 x 8 inches on Ford's Opera House letterhead. With previous folds with one inch of archival tape at fold on verso plus archival tape along edges from mounting. One stab hole upper left. Includes laid down clipping from Baltimore Sun Newspaper from December 28, 1875. Very Good Condition. Tickets are taped to mat board, showing example of verso and recto of ticket from 1865-1866 season. Ticket color likely faded from a rose color. Very Good Condition. Pair of tickets for Ford's Opera House, the same season in which President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, April 14, 1865. The tickets are laid down on mat board; verso of each is not visible. Limited Issue, one of five copies specially designated for the author, publisher, binder, printer, and publisher's files, this one marked "Binder's Copy" and signed by the author on the colophon. Quarto (27.75cm); vertically-ribbed yellow cloth, with title labels mounted to spine and front cover; [ii],[8],9-69,[5]pp; illus. An original mixed-media painting (oil and watercolor) is tipped on opposite the title page. Fine in a lightly rubbed, Near Fine acetate dustjacket. Edition limited to 750 copies bound in paper wrappers and 200 large paper copies hardbound in boards, signed with an original watercolor by the author. This, one of five binder's copies. Fourth collection of poems by the Los Angeles poet, and his second published by Black Sparrow Press, accompanied by the author's watercolors and ink drawings.

Complete Typescript with Author's Holographic Corrections as submitted to the Prize Travel Book Competition November 24, 1934, with typed submittal letter. Completed manuscript presented to Robert M. McBride & Company for their Travel Prize Competition two years prior to Caxton Press publishing the book. Forrest's submittal letter states, "I have spent many years in collecting this information, and have just completed the manuscript." William MacLeod Raine wrote the introduction. Very Good. Forrest, Earle R. (Earle Robert), 1883-1969 was born in Washington Pennsylvania in 1883, eventually making his way west under doctor's orders to live in a drier climate. Disbound; binding remains strong. Light soiling and toning to pages. One (of two) illustrations is separating at the plate indention on one side. Very Good Condition. Monthly magazine "By A Society of Gentlemen" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania focusing on history, culture, economics, literature and music. This issue includes the announcement of the death of Benjamin Franklin, along with "a short account of Doctor Franklin's last illness..." and reporting of his funeral procession and burial. Franklin was a correspondent for the "Universal Asylum and Columbian Magazine" and in fact had to articles printed in this issue. Contents include: Two engravings illustrate "Elements of Gesture" and a "Favourite Piece of Music", the "Hunting Song" is set to music by Mr. Roth, of Philadelphia. Publicist Alfred Arthur Frantz imparts an affectionate memorial to his cousin, Genevieve A. F. Carpenter, who seemed to be a generous-hearted, fiery person who loved cats. Four copies in OCLC as of May 2024.

[Signed][Etching] Dreamer, The Zinc plate etching measures 17 1/2 x 15 3/8 inches (plate size). Artwork has not been examined outside of mat board and shrink wrapping. Mat board is 24 x 20 inches. Appears to be in fine condition. Robert Freeman was born on the Rincon Indian Reservation in 1939. He is Hunkpapa Sioux and Luiseno. In 1967, Robert Freeman decided to become a professional artist. By the late 1970's he was on his way to a promising career with exhibitions throughout the United States. By the 1980's and 90's Freeman had won over 200 art awards and had become an international artist with exhibits in Mexico, Canada, Germany, Japan, Senegal West Africa, and the Vatican in Rome. Robert Freeman defies most categories. Frost in back of the book and "A Book of Drawings" by A.B. Frost also included in final pages of book. Leather bound with gilt titling to spine and cover with gilt pictorial of two hunters on cover, all edges gilt, marbled endsheets. The Deluxe Volume published in a Limited Edition of 450 copies. Number 151/450. Fine condition. Slip case in white/gray cloth shows shelf wear and light soiling. Very Good condition. Arthur Burdett Frost was an artist who drew and painted sporting scenes. "He is not only known for his prodigious output but for the consistently high quality of his art. The images cover many fields, but his painting of hunters and their gun dogs rank among his most noteworthy works.".

Letter Press File, Cripple Creek Mining District, 1909-1910 12 ¼" x 10" letter press file book, moderately worn, soiled and chipped. 1000 leaves of letter press in varying degrees of legibility, though mainly clear and in Very Good condition despite the expected soiling at edges and wrinkling to the onion-skin pages. Predominantly typescript with handwritten addenda and signatures; a few wholly manuscript. Additional 60 pp. index of correspondents, handwritten, at rear of book. Letter press leaves can be a little daunting to read however by placing a white sheet behind each leaf we find them fairly easy to read. This is a letter press file book documenting two years of activity in the Cripple Creek Mining District of Colorado. It was kept by Hildreth Frost, a prominent figure in mining. Frost earned his law degree from Harvard and worked as a lawyer on matters relating to the mining industry in Cripple Creek and Leadville, Colorado.
