Very good with minimal wear and former owner's gift inscription to ffep, in like jacket with some light chipping to head of spine.

Paris: Didot Jeune, chez Deterville, 1799. Nouvelle Edition. 12 volumes, 12mos, various paginations. Text in French. Complete with 100 hand colored plates throughout the set, most after Jean-Marie Mixelle. Contemporary mottled calf, ornately gilt spines with black morocco labels, marbled endpapers, g.e. Contemporary ownership signatures at front in each, embossed stamp from Westport Public Library to titles. Light chipping to a few spines, some wear at joints and hinges, but all sound and very good. Beautiful 18th century set of this "Mythology for everyone" which as stated in the subtitle, was designed for use and reference by students.  Mythologie was first published in 1793 and issued with uncolored, colored, or both groups of plates.  This set with wonderful, brightly colored engravings in each volume.  Scarce in this condition.

Signed and inscribed by Dietz on the front cover with a TLS on MGM letterhead laid in. Score for the English version of this verismo opera by Howard Dietz, the librettist known for his work with Arthur Schwartz, and Vice President in charge of publicity at MGM at the time. Association copy inscribed to Dietz's colleague, Barrett Kiesling, then publicity director for the company. Laid in is a letter on Dietz's MGM New York letterhead addressed to Kiesling at MGM in Culver City: "Dear Barrett, Here is the score of my English version of "La Boheme". I am proud to be included in the distinguished group on your library shelves. Best wishes. Yours, Howard.

Bookstore stamp and a couple pen markings to pastedown and ffep. Scattered foxing else clean internally. Jacket has a large chunk missing from the rear panel, which extends about halfway down and consists of about 1/3 of the total rear panel. Front panel complete with bright illustration and some chipping to upper corner and wrinkling along bottom edge.

Near fine with some age toning to edges of boards at head and heel, and spine slightly cocked. Jacket shows rubbing to foredge fold of front panel and light wear at corners and spine ends, else nearly fine. Original price of $2.00 in tact.

London: George Tucker, 1888. First edition. 8vo, 20x14cm, [v], vi-vii, [1], 80pp. Original decorated, olive cloth, spine stamped in gilt. Bookplate of James Pender to front pastedown. A bit shaken, lacking title page (bound without wrappers), some bumping and wear to boards else very good. Highly interesting association of this travel narrative of an English woman in the Western United States, owned by the author's husband, who accompanied her on the trip, Sir James Pender. Lady Rose Pender (1844-1932) and her husband, James set out on a tour of the West including Texas, California, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming in 1883.  The final destination was the Platte River Roundup, the couple having invested in a cattle ranch which they would inspect.  The narrative provides an important, rare, and somewhat humorous look at ranch life from the perspective an upper class English woman.  The Lady "authoress's" wit, disdain, and superiority shine through the text, despite her overall enjoyment of the trip. … Leer más

"For Madeleine (Hugh's Wife) - Who said there wasn't any pattern? With Love, Lionel." Laid in is a note also signed by the author asking Madeleine to come by for drinks, if she is not busy. Stated first printing, near fine with price sticker to ffep in like jacket with mild edge wear.

Very nice copy of this, the Scottish/Irish author Stephen Gilbert's (1912-2010) first book.  The Landslide is a parallel worlds story involving fantastical and benevolent prehistoric creatures that were discovered after a landslide.  Naturally, the locals think the creatures are hellspawn sent by the devil.  Uncommon in such a nice jacket. Fine condition. Nicely executed letterpress broadside by James T. Jones, being a poem on the power of language.  Only the first ten copies, A-J, contain the calligraphy by Linda Lundy.  From the printer: "After I finished my master's thesis in 1972, I kept the onionskin paper left over from the bound copies, which had double rules in red on all four margins. I dragged the leftover sheets around with me for forty years, and when I started learning letterpress printing, I realized why I had saved the paper. I wanted to use it to print my manifesto about the nature of language. To highlight this piece I asked Linda Lundy, a calligrapher who is also a friend, to create an illuminated letter L on the first ten copies.
