Written by one of Chicago's women of the "Golden Age of Radio," Helen Stevens Fisher, best known as "The Little Lady of the House" who was featured on The National Farm and Home Hour (NBC) - one of the most popular radio programs of the 20th century. Fisher was the Barbara Walters of her time, wrangling nationally famous personalities and stars coming through Chicago to join her on air and talk abouth themselves on the broadcast. Booklet is filled with wacky party ideas: Millionaire's Party, Paper Sack Party, Treasure Trail... all accompanied by menus and recipes. Illustrated throughout. Covers lightly rubbed at edges.

"Speed of the wind ... the grace and smoothness of an arrow ... luxury and comfort of a smart club ... in brief, that is the "City of Denver" ... newest and finest Diesel-powered streamline train in the great Union Pacific-Chicago and North Western fleet." A stylish advertising pamphlet promoting this ultramodern train including the dining car, the cocktail lounge, the Nurse-Stewardess, the Frontier Shack, the Motors, and a tipped in route map with times. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos & illustrations of the train. Interior clean and crisp, wraps very lightly creased, otherwise clean.

Chicago: Union Pacific Railroad, c. 1940. Pamphlet. Tawny pink textured illustrated paper. Near fine. 17 x 10 cm. closed, 17 x 29 cm. opened. City of Denver railroad car commissioned American Artist Walt Kuhn to design two cars to resemble a historic frontier shack/bar for the daily trains between Chicago and Denver. One of the cars was dedicated to General Grant, with his portrait in a prominent location, and the other was dedicated to Buffalo Bill. Kuhn lined the walls and ceilings with unfinished wood and decorated each car with a variety of genuine antiques dating from 1865 to 1890, including photos, newspaper stories, and hardware such as a rifle issued to Union Pacific construction crews in the late 1860s. The pamphlet is printed on paper reminiscent of the late 1800's with black and white photos of various views of the railroad car. One small 1 cm. stain on the rear of the pamphlet, otherwise pristine.

An interesting combination of cookbook and promotional publication all in one. This cookbook opens up with an introduction of the Boston Fish Market Corporation and the new (early 1900's) Wharf in South Boston, built - along with the history of the New England Fish Exchange which was formed in September, 1908. Included is advice on how to cook, measure, and care for the seafood you buy. Recipes cover EVERYTHING under the sun when it comes to seafood. Recipe for Tuna Fish Salad is written in pencil on front free end paper. Interior pages lightly toned, boards lightly soiled.

New York, NY: Royal Baking Powder Co. , 1902. Staplebound. Yellow illustrated wraps, Good. 44 pages, 20.5 x 13 cm. This copy of Royal Baker and Pastry Cook, published in 1902, seems to have been distributed at purchase by the grocer. It has a stamp on the back reading “Lydecker Bros. Co. Dealers in Staple and Fancy Groceries, Nyack-on-the-Hudson”. The contents of the book include recipes organized with a large index at the front, and advertisements for Royal Baking Powder. One of these advertisement pages is filled with endorsements from scientists and doctors and “Expert Cooks”, including Presidents Arthur and Cleveland’s White House Executive Chef, A. Fortin. This page, as well as the others, directly address the brand’s competitors by attacking their prices as well as their use of phosphates. 1 cm tears on three of the cover's corners. Some foxing throughout.

This "Royal Cherry Gelatin" foldable is illustrated with bright, colorful images of recipes made with the product and a drawing of three women enjoying a classy tea with their gelatin dessert with the caption "A Friendly Treat". The recipes include Lemon Parfait and Pineapple Jelly and Fruit Salad and all include Royal Fruit Flavored Gelatin in their ingredients list. Some small stains.

The back of the foldable claims Royal Baking Powder Company's products to be "absolutely pure". Some signs of wear along creases.

Interesting page discussing the need to bake "by temperature" - most likely focusing on the homemaker who recently acquired a gas stove. Recipes for preparing and cooking meats, fish, poultry, vegetables and food for the sick; instructions for preserving and pickling; the making of ices, beverages, and confections. Owners inscription on cover. Black and white illustration including table setting formula.

Rumford, RI: Rumford Chemical Works, 1932. staplebound. tan printed wraps, good. 64 pages, 12.5 x 18.5 cm. The Rumford Common Sense Cook Book includes pages of recipes, cooking terms, and instructions. One page informs the homemaker of how to bake “by temperature” as a helpful tidbit to those who had just acquired a gas stove. Throughout are various black and white illustrations. The book is compiled by Lily Haxworth Wallace. It ends with an advertisement for Rumford Complete Cook Book (the elongated version of this book), which can be “MAILED FREE FOR 10 Cards from ONE pound cans of Rumford Baking Powder.” Laid in is one newspaper clipping from the Chattanooga Daily Times, August 4th, 1934, with baseball news on one side and cake recipes on the other and one folded and ripped typewritten letter seemingly from W.C. Providence, RI: The Rumford Company, [~1920]. staplebound. Red, black, and beige plaid wraps. Near fine. 64 pages, 18.5 x 12.5 cm. The Rumford Modern Methods of Cooking cookbook is both an advertisment for the Rumford Wholesome Baking Powder and the first published collection of recipes by Sarah Field Splint. Splint would go on to serve as editor of the magazine Today's Housewife and become a member of feminist debating group "Heterodoxy". The book contains recipes divided into section, advice for new housewives, and some basic instructions of measurement and cooking. Clear and crisp pages, two light stains on cover.

New York: THE RURAL NEW-YORKER, 1907. Staplebound. Brown wraps. Good. 192 pages. 19.5 x 13.5 cm. Published by the Rural New-Yorker, a weekly periodical founded in 1850, this cookbook is filled to the brim with recipes that would be useful to farming families. The emphasis on "putting food by" is front and center with recipes for a variety of sausages, explanations on curing, and a full chapter on apples. Jams, preserves, and pickles round out the cookbook. Some water stains to the interior as well as the cover with chipping to the cover and 2 cm. loss at the spine.
