Fine, in clear acetate dust jacket, as issued. Black Sparrow Press was a small independent publishing house focused on avant-garde literature. Established by John and Barbara Martin in 1966, in Los Angeles, and shuttered in 2002, in Santa Rosa. With the help of typographer and printer Graham Mackintosh, the Press was responsible for drawing attention to Charles Bukowski and his literary work.

T.e.g. Glorious dove gray endsheets with the Cassell "La Belle Sauvage" medallion as motif. First edition, with a four page "Important Works ...," and the first state of the terminal catalogue, dated "6G - 8.96." Spine a bit faded, but a good copy overall with the bookplate of the Grolier Bibliophile and bookplate collector, Dorothy Furman.

Ink inscription to the front free endpaper, else very good in a good dust jacket with a darkened spine panel and very shallow loss to spine ends. First trade edition, preceded by the Cuala Press edition.Bowen was an Anglo-Irish writer who, although she lived primarily in England, maintained a large family estate, Bowen's Court, in County Cork, Ireland. She mixed with the Bloomsbury Group, becoming good friends with Rose Macaulay and welcomed the aforesaid Virginia Woolf, among others, to Bowen's Court. In the finest Bloomsbury tradition, Bowen had several extra-marital relationships including one with the American poet May Sarton.

A first book of verse by the author - and she really shouldn't have bothered - but the six tipped-in art deco plates by Fouts, printed in blue on metallic silver finish paper and the occasional vignettes in deep blue scattered throughout, and a full page image at the conclusion of the text make this effort more than worth the bother. Uncommon in dust jacket, and the poetry is really hilarious.

When two women are found dead, and a third found beaten and unconscious, Wexford jumps to the conclusion that one of them is the missing daughter - it isn't.

Neat ink name and date on front free endpaper, some little offsetting to endpapers, light sunning to edges, else internally about fine, without dust wrapper. This limited edition from the Riccardi Press Booklets series reprints forty-four of Barrett Browning's most beloved, and oft-quoted sonnets originally published in 1850.
