Illustarted with drawings, diagrams and photos. " A complete practical treatise outlining clearly the elements of aeronautical engineering with special reference to simplified explanations of the theory of flight, aerodynamics (etc).." A tight, clean, fine copy, quite unusual thus.

Quarto sized in blue cloth lettered in gilt and with gilt decoration of biplane in flight. 259 pps. with index. 32 monochrome photographic plates (mostly aerial views and including dirigibles) and four folding plates at rear. Important early work focusing on peacetime aviation. While the gilt stamping is still bright, this copy regretably has dampstaining to the lower 1" of the cloth extending upwards along the spine and front gutter edge an additional 2". There is evidence of damp along the lower edge of the text block tho' this is confined to the lower margins of pages and plates and does not extend to the text.

Illustarted with monochrome photos and drawings. This edition (the 10th annual) covers Lindbergh's famous flight to Paris. Sections include: Ephocal Flights of 1927, Civil Avaiation in the U.S., Governmental (including miltary) Aviation, Airports and Airways, Airships and Balloons, Aeronautical Education and Foreign Aeronautical Review. A tight, clean, fine copy (couple of tiny nicks to the front cover).

A dramatic, inspiring look at the second and later generations of women aviators who were equally determined and courageous but whose unique history is largely unknown. Beginning in 1942, with World War II raging on multiple fronts, the U.S. Army Air Force launcheda small, cautious experiment---it invited a handful of skilled women aviators to serve in its Ferrying Division, delivering military planes from factories to air bases all over the country. By war's end, more that a thousand women, led by famous avatrix Jacqueline Cochran, served and flew as well B-52s, and every aircraft in the Army Air Force. In the early 1960s, a handful of top female pilots wewre recruited by NASA to particpate in the "Women In Space" program; they never did make it into space but paved the way for today's women astronauts.

Memorial of the life of Arthur Richmond Taber, a Princetonian who volunteered to serve with the American Ambulance Corps. upon the outbreak of World War I and who later joined the School of Military Aeronautics and became a combat aviator. He survived the official end of the war but, in circumstances eerily similar to another famous Princeton man, Hobey Baker, was killed when his plane crashed a few months after the Arrmistice. A tight, copy, spine a touch rubbed.

A history of the race to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and bag a $25,000 prize offered by Raymond Orteig in 1927. The author describes the lives and personalities of the competitors, from Charles Lindbergh (the eventual winner), to the pilots whose names have been forgotten.

With 712 photographic illustrations. The second edition. By far the most detailed, comprehensive and authentic work on the subject of British aircraft of 1914-18. Contains virually every noteworthy fact ever recorded about these aeroplanes with descriptions of 286 basic types of planes both operational and experimental and details of all the known variants thereof. A tight, clean copy, few scattered small spots to the cloth. In dust jacket with a few short closed tears to the edges. Biography of World War One combat pilot Billy Bishop, an ace who survived more than 170 air battles and was credited with 72 kills. Authored by his son, it is nonetheless a remarkably objective work about the life and times of the Ontario born hero, the first man in British military history to receive the Victoria Cross, the D.S.O. and the Military Cross in one ceremony. Fine in lightly foxed dust jacket with a smallclosed tear foot of the spine.
