A two-book set, still wrapped in plastic. The second, smaller book is The Abascal Way Cookbook. As it says on the cover, "Try the diet that has taken Vashon Island by storm!" (Vashon Island is a small community of 11,000 people located in the middle of Washington's Puget Sound.)

Textured pictorial paper covered boards. The cover is worn at the corners and edges, boards showing through at the lower right corners. The pages are tight and intact, with some food staining. (You can always tell the favorite cookbook in the kitchen by the density of the food stains.) The final photograph shows perhaps the most stained page. Illustrated with photos, stills from the movie Alice's Restaurant, and drawings by the author. The recorded introduction by Arlo Guthrie is no longer with the book. A rare book.

A collection of 350 barbeque recipes from various parts of the country. Each comes with a paragraph giving the background of the recipe and most give a location where Thompson came across it. (And no, this is not the actor, former Tennessee Senator and brief presidential candidate. This Fred Thompson is a much younger guy from North Carolina, who writes and teaches about cooking. Book shows little wear, although there is a very small grease stain on the edge of the last two pages (how appropriate for a barbeque book), and one spine crease There are a number of color photos of the finished products in the center of the book. A couple of examples of the offerings herein: Goat Cheese-Topped Filet Mignon from Byhalia, MS; Spareribs from Kansas City, MO; Mustard Barbeque Chicken from Fayetteville, NC; Crispy Grilled Halibut with Caper Butter from San Francisco, CA; and Portobello Hash from Seattle, WA. An oddly shaped book, twice as tall as it is wide. Cover has some discoloration, but interior pages are all clean and bright. 120 pages, with almost 100 cookie recipes. There is even a four-page section on building a gingerbread house. Not all are sweet, as in the case of the Cheese Straws and the Anchovy and Pepper Twists.

The cover of this rare old book has come loose from the book and is in two pieces. This small guide is intended to help plan children's parties around a number of themes, including New Years, Valentine's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and more. Each party plan comes with a number of recipes and a beautiful full-page, full-color illustration by the well-known artist Frances Tipton Hunter. Many recipes specify the use of Calumet Baking Powder, so I presume that they were a sponsor of this publication (Additional copies were available for 10 cents with a coupon from your Calumet can, or 50 cents without.) This is a fairly rare book.

A lovely cookbook from a California winery. Looks like new, but I know it was used a bit, because the previous owner had about a dozen sticky note bookmarks placed throughout. Here are a selection of recipes just to make you want it more, selected at random: Mussels Florentine, Six-Pepper Pasta with Pumpkin Seeds, Pork Tenderloins with Orange Sauce, Crab Crepes with Avocado Sauce, and Apricot Pistachio Pastry Rolls. Yum!

Very little sign of wear. These recipes are not sugar-free, as they often use fructose along with a sugar substitute. But, if you can't live without cookies, and you are diabetic, you will live better with these cookies.

If you are looking to reduce fat without giving up on baked goods, this is the cookbook for you!. Virtually unblemished copy. 232 pages, including index.

First edition. Book shows no wear, and the dust jacket is equally undamaged, except for a residue of something that was spilled on the front. You can see it if the light is right and feel it a bit, but it has had no impact of the color of the dust jacket, and it doesn't wipe off. Otherwise, this thing is pristine. It seems Fondue is back. I remember receiving a fondue pot as a wedding gift back in the late 1970s, and learning what Kirshwasser was about 1980, but I do not remember using the pot much after that. Like so many other things, Fondue gets to be new and exciting every few generations. just like tie-dye and bell bottoms (right?). Over 50 recipes await your discovery of fondue. 96 pages.

This cookbook provides 32 menus, eight per season, with all the recipes and instruction as to order of preparation, to make all your dinner parties a culinary success. Accompanied by many full color photographs of the finished products. I am particularly drawn toward one of the Fall menus, entitled Crab Feast. This includes Pepper Shrimp, Avocado Salsa, Fougasse with Rosemary, Steamed Dungeness Crab (my favorite crab), Gazpacho Salad, Chocolate Biscotti and Tangerine Sherbet. Book appears unused.
